Thanx to "Badass Lego Guns" book, I started using LDRAW standards and MLCAD.
I only recently noticed most here use LDD?
To be honest I think MLCAD is superior design wise :)
But I seem to lack newer parts? e.g. no Hero Factory parts :(
Anyone by chance have LDRAW parts for this?
Have you checked the unofficial parts on the ldraw homepage?
I totally agree when you say that MLCAD is superior to LDD but I think that SR 3D Builder http://sr3dbuilder.altervista.org/ will replace MLCAD in this leading position soon. Seems it can do everything that MLCAD can do and even more (i. e. animated LEGO) and work is still in progress. And it is in 3D - just better than LDD imho.
Check out the demo videos on YouTube.
For me, i prefer LDD. Okay, those CAD progs can do more, allow illegal connections and have all parts but LDD is more User-friendly in my opinion. SR3D isnt bad but not that handy like LDD. There should be a prog with the handling of LDD and the possibilitys of the CADs. Permalink
There are connections I can do in real life that I can't in LDD, and LDraw is more powerful. But you can't get inside an LDraw lego, it just zooms into a surface and won't go further. That's why ultimately I ended up using LDD. Back when LDD was first made it rarely connected to the piece you were trying to connect to and there were even fewer connections you could make. Since they updated it to work better I actually prefer it.
My only thing against LDD currently is with minifigs and capes. Permalink
