Can I be a judge?

Hi Dan, I was reading the rules and read the part about not really wanting rods to be added to the group but I was wondering, I've got a salt flat racer from that time period that I just finished and now I just need to take photos, can that be added to the contest when uploaded?

Hi Aaden,

Yeah... Hot rods are hard to categorize... the cars themselves were often made in the 20s and 30s, yet hot rodding only emerged in the 50s ... I think it would be much more fitting to enter in the next contest, covering 50s and 60s cars, where it will be more than welcome :)

- Dan

PS. all those who didn't read the rules (or even the contest name) and are posting gears of war vehicles... really, don't bother. I'm not going to 'rate and comment' your stuff and it'll just get deleted from the group.

I have a really long list of cars to build, but don't worry, I really hope I will be able to enter something in. Don't expect to see my entry this month, it probably will come somewhere in April.

Can you tell me how I should score the entries?? I'm probably not going to enter a car.

Ok, sorry for not being able to enter this contest, but yes I will enter the next. Thanks for replying

No problem... and you're still very welcome to make an entry for this competition; it's on for two months.
I only said that as I wouldn't be very inclined to let a hot rod win in a contest more aimed at 'pebble beach' Bugattis and the sort; yet it would have a much better chance in the next competition - hot rods are one of the images of the 50s (in america anyway lol)

Good luck :)

No worries - the contest is on for two whole months just to give everybody interested plenty of time - it makes no difference when your entry comes, they're all judged right at the end.

Hi,

Hmm... I may allow extra judges but it depends on how you plan on judging. I've entered contests where people judged by commenting on creations, giving points to different aspects of things, ending up in a total score.
Nothing wrong with that, but that's not how I do it :)
I find it's more fair to not judge one by one, but all at once. For my first contest I had the page of entries up, looked at them all, then back at the back to compare them to each other. Finally, regardless of who built it or popularity of the model, I chose what most suited the contest's theme, what was most built most accurate to the real car, and finally the build quality itself (size only partially matters - as the bigger it is, the more detail and the better use of parts you can get).

In theory, the day the judging happens will be the 1st may, the day I start the 3rd contest... though I just found out that with easter holidays etc I may not be here at that time; so it might be a few days late... shouldn't be too disastrous seeing as every contest is two montsh long - give or take a couple of days and nobody's hurt.
If anybody else wants to judge, instead of commenting on creations with a judgement, compare all the entries, and see what you think deserve 1st, 2nd and 3rd, then tell me why (not now of course, at the end) , and send me in an e-mail to ibeatgodzilla@gmail.com - if the judgement is fair I'll see how it compares with mine and change the final results as necessary.

I'll let you judge if you can tell me exactly what, and what kind of models we're looking for on this contest, what you think would win... :)

That's a much better way of judging that actually giving scores. But since I will have to email you, I won't be able to judge.

Hi,

Nothing set in stone right now; I'll think of exact timelines when the time comes to make the contests, but I'm thinking (roughly) that the thid one will be 1946 - 1965.

Also it's for cars from all around the worl so it'll be nice to see some entries other than hot rods and american cars, as nice as they are.

Nobody *has* to take part in any of the contests, they're all just for fun and to stimulate everybody's creativity. It's interesting to see what people come up with when invited to build something they may not have otherwise done.

You've still got a massive 5 weeks - this one isn't even halfway through yet - so plenty of time to think something up :)

Hey Dan! Long time no see :)

Sorry I forgot about this. I never really checked my groups or activity. I also haven't been building cars but thanks to you, I'm back in the... car building "business.)(?)
Well, I'll go get started on inspiration. See ya' later.

Hey :)

No worries - the whole idea of making my contests last 2 months is precisely for those who may not see if the minute it pops up.

I'm sure you'll find plenty of inspiration... I find the cars from this era much more inspiring (and inspired...) than anything built today :)

Still just under a month left, people !

41 members and only 8 creations - let's see if we can get the rest of our entries rolling in...

Erm... well I guess, but I'm not sure how it would work.
It's not a case of commenting on the tnries, giving stars out of 5 for differen things or anything... the way I was going to do it, was just look at each one, then look at them altogether, put the ones I think are best made and most suited to the theme aside, then put them in order 1st th 3rd... a bit vague, sorry lol...

nothing stopping you from commenting on the creations though and telling the builders what you think of their models.

Nothing to lose by entering it anyway, though of course you're welcome to attend the next one which will start in a few days.
