I decided to make a history of this group and tell you how it all started. If you are interested, please look.
When I first joined MOCpages about half a year ago, I started making custom creations. I was inspired by a fellow Lego builder - Brickplumber.
After a while, I visited groups and thought of starting my own group of LEGO Experts. The original name was Star Wars Experts Group. It was private and had only about 4 members, really good builders though. After one left another did as well and I came to thinking of closing the group.
But after a month, I finally thought of making this a public Star Wars group and enhancing it. I later renamed it Ultimate Star Wars Experts Group. It still didn't get more members until a another month had passed. Just before I was about to delete the group because it had turned inactive, a friend invited me to a small, but really cool group called Star Wars Clone Commanders. I got some really good ideas from it and became determined to save my group. I researched and checked which groups were successful at the time. I then thought of the group name Grand Army of the Republic from one of my Star Wars games I played. Once I made group improvements like adding Star Wars songs, contests, games, and creations, people started joining the group like CRAZY! In 12 days, I had gotten 30 members! After another month I had 40. I started adding more music, games, and links to other great groups.
This also led me to the idea of creating a new kind of rule system that had inspired groups all around MOCpages. We have a great relationship with Clone Commanders. We go back farther than you know. It has become one of the most active groups in MOCpages not because of the amount of conversation we have, but because of how often we talk and communicate.
Currently, my group has about 50 members and is continuously growing. We will be launching secondary sub-groups for special events soon.
Grand Army of the Republic has reached it's goal for members and creations. 50 members, 150 creations, and 300 comments. It has also fulfilled its purpose, being active and friendly.
We are now hoping to reach 100 members by the end of October. Permalink
