Listed below are all the rules for contestants. If you've played in the MocOlympics before, much of this will look fimiliar, nonetheless we ask that you read it through thoroughly. (Important lingo: LOTR = Lord of the Rings & MELO = Middle Earth Lego Olympics):

1. In all one-on-one elimination rounds, only build in your given LOTR/Hobbit category. Any builds entered that do not pertain to the contest will be removed from the group. This should be a no brainer.

2. Unless stated otherwise by the judges and/or given category, you can only enter one NEW (we don't want to see any old MOCs here) build per round. How is that defined? To put it simply: only build one scene. What you want to avoid is creating an entry that could easily be divided into separate posts. As such, story towers are also off limits. Other than that, there are no restrictions as to size/scale. Be creative!

3. We also ask that you refrain from using Lego Digital Designer. Let's see some ABS Lego builds! BrickArms, custom decals, and the like are permitted.

4. In all one-on-one elimination rounds, provide working (HTML) links to the MELO homepage and your opponent's homepage or entry. In regards to the qualifier, you are only required to have a working link to the MELO homepage. It is preferable that all links be located near the top of your entry. If you're not familiar with HTML, visit this page:

5. Title all entries with: MELO Round_(fill in the blank) followed by your name vs. your opponent's name.

MELO R3: Meriadoc Brandybuck vs. Peregrin Took

For the qualifier, simply title your entry: MELO Round 1: (then whatever you want)

MELO R1: What about second breakfast?!

6. In all one-on-one elimination rounds, state your category near the top of your entry.

7. Once you've added your entry to the MELO group, no making changes to it! There are, however, two exceptions here: (1) If you so desire, you are permitted to change the link from your opponent's homepage to that of his/her entry, and (2) if you discover some little typo/grammatical issue in your write-up, it's fine to make a small correction. As judges, we appreciate write-up that makes sense and links that make our lives easier!

8. In all one-on-one elimination rounds, we ask that you state the bracket you're in near the top of your entry (more on brackets below).

9. Show respect to your fellow competitors. As a little side note, we also ask that you refrain from creating new threads. That is a privilege strictly limited to the group admins.

Other things to take note of:
Once we've delved into the elimination rounds (beginning at Round 2) all competitors will be divided evenly into two brackets (cleverly named after the Two Towers):

Barad Dur Bracket:
The judges for this bracket are Mark Murphy, Christopher Baldacci, and Ian Spacek.

Orthanc Bracket:
The judges for this bracket are Michael Kringe, Max Pointner, and Aidan Moon.

Paul Vermeesch will serve as a tie-breaker judge, if the issue arises.

With the exception of the qualifier, judging will be conducted by way of votes.

Unlike the MocOlympics, only the top thirty-two players in the qualifier will continue on into the elimination rounds. As it's limited to Middle Earth, this contest is a round shorter than the official MOs. Elimination rounds will last ten days each, with intermittent judging periods.

That should be all you need to know for the time being! Thanks for reading the rules and bearing them in mind.

For any new group members, the contest is now in full swing. If you've just joined, you'll have to wait until next year to participate in the 2013-14 MELO. Feel free to stick around and watch the proceedings though!
