There will be 30 different categories in which to build. Each TEAM will try to build in as many of the categories as they can. THE LIST
OF CATEGORIES WILL BE ANOUNCED FEB 29TH, 2012.
Teams will consist of 5 players total with no more than TWO AFOLs. There can be ANY combination of this (including no AFOLs if that's what you want) but no more than 2 per team.
Important note: your team must coordinate who is building what. No duplication within a
category is allowed. The teams must decide WHO is building in WHICH category. This is why team work is essential to the competition.
Teams will need to form group pages (MAKE THESE PRIVATE GROUPS) that include the five members of the team and the six judges. All the
judges MUST be invited to your team's group page.
All entries must be posted in the MOCathalon group AND the team group page. Each MOC entered must have the category of the build and the team name as the first line of the introduction of your post OR the first line of the post if you don't use the introduction section. Entries that do not meet these criterion will NOT be judged. We won't be DQing anyone for this, but you will NOT receive a score unless the above criteria are met.
We'll give you a little flexibility to title your creation, BUT the introduction must say the team name and the category built in (NOT
at the end of your post, the INTRODUCTION).
The judges will rate each creation on the following scale:
There will be a POSSIBLE perfect score of 30 points per moc.
DQ: disqualification. Cheating, such as plagiarism or reposting old mocs. Only the player in question will get a DQ, the team will live on.
0 Point: "Clone on a plate" type entries will be laughed at and you will not receive any points. Out of focus pictures, builds that don't match the theme, late entries, etc.
1 point: This is basically for just posting; now, you have to put SOME effort into the MOC.
2 points: Good effort put forth. You spent some "actual" time creating the MOC and it doesn't burn our eyes to look at it.
3 points: Nicely done! Pictures in focus, attention paid to details and so on. You put a good effort into this and it shows. (please note, this WILL be your average score. We won't be throwing 5s at every moc so if you get a 3, it's a GOOD thing.)
4 points: Wow man, this is REALLY cool! You put a lot of work into this and we're really impressed here!
5 points: Kelso better watch out because YOU have arrived!
The judges will rate the creations during the competition. We will then take a few days to rate the "sure to be" flood of last minute
entries. We will do our best to get the final scores out to you as quickly as possible after March 30th and announce a winning team.
Teams may not start building until March 1st. Any posts made after 11:59pm March 30th will not be judged.
Creations must be made from actual Lego (no LDD). Creations are not required to be purist (Brickarms and such may be used). Carefully read the description of each category to meet the specifications stipulated within.
Every creation must be a new and unique build. No recycling of older creations to make a new MOC look better. You may duplicate use of a
plain, single colored, flat wall to use as a background for clean picture taking purposes ONLY if you wish.
If you have any questions, please ask them in the question thread ONLY.
Finally, the judges rule is final. Judges are NOT required to write in depth comments on your moc, only the score. There were over 400
entries last year and as much as we'd like to, there's simply no way we can "comment" on each moc. Every moc that meets the requirements
though WILL be scored by each judge.
Finally, you MUST have a MOCpages account to participate in this contest. Feel free to also post your entries on Flickr, Eurobricks or
Brickshelf but ONLY entries posted in this group will be judged.
Good luck everyone! If you have any questions please ask them in the question thread only.
