MOC-offs
 Group admin
Welcome to the newest type of LOM build: the MOC-off!
If two LOM members decide to do a MOC-off, they must agree on a category, a deadline and a panel of three judges. The category can be a setting, a parts restriction, a key element challenge, or even no category at all if you want to leave all options open. As soon as both entries have been posted, the judges will determine the winner. No deadline extensions, but you can make the deadline a loose one. If one participant doesn't post in time, then the other person's entry only gets 3 points - so make sure both people enter! If neither participant posts their entry, then the MOC-off never happened. MOC-off entries are worth 3 points, MOC-off victories are worth 5 points. Your combined number of MOC-offs and freebuilds per month may be no more than 5.
Also, MOC-off victories are worth 2 guild points if you are in a guild and beat a member of a different guild. If you do a MOC-off against a member of your own guild, the guild gets one guild point. For more information on guilds and guild points, look at the Guilds thread.
You may use this thread to plan and judge MOC-offs, although it's better to judge MOC-offs by leaving comments on the entries.

Alright. I'm already 2 hours and 10 minutes into my time. I haven't gotten very far though.

EDIT: I finished. I went 5 minutes over for the minifigs, so you can take 5 extra minutes for the minifigs as well.
2nd EDIT: Also, who should judge? And will the judging be based on the use of the seed part or the overall build quality? I'd be in favor of the latter.

A seed? Please explain.

Something similar to the iron builder (https://www.flickr.com/groups/2167827@N22/discuss/72157656560236982/) where both builders are required to use a specific piece in their build, preferably in a special way. The specific piece if often called the "seed part," because the rest of the model basically grows around this part (though not necessarily literally).

I have an idea for the moc off rules.

How about who can build the bst winter battle scene. Examples would be an invasion of a castle in winter, men fighting a battle on a wintery landscape ect/ Then we could choose something such as a seed. You would get the choice because I choose the category (As long as I have it I'm good with pretty much and piece).

How would that work?

WHAT?!?! WHAT?!?!?! WHAAAAAT?!?!?!? NO MOCOLYMPICS!!??!!? OMG, well then, yeah let's totally do one.

I was thinking about doing like "A battle in the Wilderness" and that'd just be how ever you take it. So people vs people, or people vs. animals or animals vs dragons or what ever. And you'd be able to build any type of wilderness (dessert, jungle, cave) what ever.

I'm thinking that sounds a bit broad as I type but if you'd want to do it, I'd love it. :) Just get back to me when ever, my bricks are currently free. :D

Sounds good! I can discuss later today.

I can. Also, you don't need to pick judges - unless you specify otherwise, the default option is for the first three staff to pass by this thread after you finish to look at both builds and judge them. That way, you don't have to wait for a specific person to come by, or check with the person you're competing against to see if a judge is alright.

I am looking for a Moc off for a castle. I have just designed and built a new modular castle design. Using the already built modules, I can build a new castle in just a few minutes. This may not be considered a fair challenge unless it was against another modular castle design. Please take a look at the modular castles I just added to this group and let me know. Thanks

I forgot I was judging, and I didn't think you could use a UC as a MOC-off entry...? I guess it's okay, it just probably won't get any bonus character points or anything.

Unfortunately, no - you got 6.85

To make it easier for anyone who wants to see if they can get seer rank or whatever:

Halhi, Cab, Asad, Noel, Armon, Dave, and Joel got over 7 this time.

Unfortunately, this means I cannot participate in the MOC-Off against you, as I do not have the Seer Rank requirements. I'm extremely sorry, but requirements are requirements, and I haven't meet them.

Again, very sorry Halhi, but due to this, You'll have to find another opponent.

I suppose this is OK, but I'll bring it up in the staff group. For now, I'd say that because you used UC entries, there won't be any extra character points for the winner. We need to discuss whether this will be worth guild points, and whether this counts towards completing Rank requirements, but I think it probably will.

It looks good, except for one thing: I started to building my part and it is 19x26 counting the border. :(

That's fine. I personally have also been thinking of building bit larger.

Jacob and I have both posted our mocs! Who wants to judge?

But keep in mind that you can't actually judge until both contestants give the go-ahead. You may also want to wait until Jacob has posted his build on mocpages.

Go ahead. I need to spend one more day finishing up some other things, but there's no point in making you wait.

This must be the first time that I've ever been like completely out of stonework pieces, and I still have a big round wall to make...hopefully slope stonework (like in Legonardo's windmill) doesn't look too out of place next to normal greebly stonework....

I'm building something round too! Unfortunately my moc is not coming along well. I have hardly any images to draw on and the ones I do have contradict each other.

Just earlier today I found out that my wall for the bell tower (as in the picture I shared in our guild group) was 2 studs too narrow. That was annoying to fix... This is probably the most stonework I've ever done in a MOC, it's not really my favorite stonework (Zelpunra's tower is IMO by far my best stonework, followed by maybe Mystic Isle) but it's decent at least. I'll probably have to rush the rest though to finish on time :P I'm particularily worried about the round stonework, since the round tower of Zelpunra's tower took 2 months to build (with significant distractions like school and the REC and laziness, but...)

My plan is to have the Season 1 finale for my LOM story in June, so there won't be a huge gap in the story while I'm away.

First off, do you know where in Nerogue you're character is? Because if he's near Rogath we can make this a crossover as well.

As for rules, perhaps we could each build a dwarven siege machine. A catapult, a battering ram, etc.

First one of us does a build with the other's character in it, then vice versa. My idea was that, since our characters are near each other, we could have them join together to deal with the required battle machines.

Here's a photo of my two characters in Bodus if you agree. You can use either or both. Feel free to tweak them a bit to fit your pieces: http://www.moc-pages.com/image_zoom.php?mocid=424964&id=/user_images/120733/14548857603

Later this year, around, Christmas, though, I'm available if you wanted to try it. :D

Also, and hour isn't very long, plus you can't track it officially.

Instead, I would try a whole day. The MOC must be started that morning and be posted by that night.

Yeah, a day might work better. Winter break sounds good.

I will judge if i'm allowed to. I would build, but my camera's charger vanished unfortunately.

You're absolutely allowed to. One thing you should know about MOCpages is that if your comment didn't appear right away, it's because it went to moderation. This means it won't show up until a moderator or admin of the group approves it. If that happens, don't try to comment again; someone will approve it as soon as possible.

Although comments usually go to moderation for something questionable in their content, yours are probably doing so because your homepage hasn't become visible yet. Once you've posted a build and it's been approved by the MOCpages staff, the problem should be fixed.

As far as titles go, all I really do is replace the normal UC or FB part with MOCoff, and it works pretty decently
