MOL Fun Fact: In the depths of the staff group, a nearly complete redesign of the LOM may or may not be being discussed ...

LOM Fun Fact: For clarification purposes: The MOL Fun Fact was first introduced by George Marshalllll with the intent to tease and mislead the general LOM populace. Its premise is that it tells the truth about half of the time. The shorthand "MOL" stems from the name Myths of Landron, which, according to the first MOL fact, was one of the names originally considered for the Lands of Mythron.

I'm an Outlaw. I steal things. >:D

But there's a simple way to get it back. Click the permalink button on the comment you want to steal, copy the number at the end of what is now the url, then edit one of your comments and replace the number at the end of that url with the number you copied and reload the page. That should get you into the comment you want to steal. You can then make changes and update the comment, and it will show up as yours. ;)

I beg to differ. 74 is even, and we all know even numbers are better than odd ones.

Well, as I said, MOL facts are only true half the time. And since we know that the Myths of Landron was a name consideration from an MOL fact (the first one, to be precise), we shall never know whether it is true or not. :P.

I also love how nobody caught on to my mischievous misinformment. The MOL fact was begun by Gilbert Despathens, not Geroge Marshalllll. :P

You take the numbers at the end of the permalink to the comment you want to highjack, (you might need to delete the www.moc- part of the URL to see it on iPad)
Then edit one of your comments, and replace the ending numbers in that comment to the ones you just copied, refresh the edit page, and there ya go!

Heh, I forgot to tell you guys.

For English class in school, we had to write a short story. Most poeple did horror or crime as they are (*ussaly*) easier to write, but I, of course, did medieval fantasy.

I did not use a LOM setting, but instead used a WOE (world of emprovious) setting, as I, as that dead ROG's founder, have at least half a "right" to claim it as my own.

Anyway, I used my LOM character (but Yamus guyére rather then John guyére, so a different first name) (Yamus is my Latin name. I study Latin after school, but not as a subject, as a fun pass time, not with a teacher, but with an older student, who runs this Latin club. It's great. And we get sweets, we made shields, we have great fun, anyway, back to the story....)

Anyway, I handed my ten and a half page novella in, and got 100%. This has been the first 100% my teacher had given in 16 years of teaching in one of the best grammar schools in my country.

Anyway, I have to thank you guys for the story, because I learnt many of my writing techniques from the amazing LOM community. So, merci buckets, guys!

I trolled everyone a year ago, on the 27th March, to be exact. My trolling still ruins comments by cab and Reese.

I mistakenly said that it was "myths of landrom" when answering a qurstion addressed to city creator, but I was quickly told that it was meant to be "myths of legendorm" and I even caught Gilbert out. Accidentally.

Anyway, I'm going to sleep because I've reached teenage years and I'm exhausted. Bye.

Look, Ive got something I need to say.....

I have so many LOM SERIES' being made, but I'm afraid there's just...well.. No real point making them.

I'm sorry, but this place is nearly dead. But I have a question-

Would the staff mind if I took my current character,re-used some LOM stories, and, well, re-started him in a different fantasy universe. (One I have already created) or would this be thought of as "hustling" out LOM? It's just I feel I have a nice character, but could only reach my full story's potential outside of an RPG world- one which I control.

And anyway, usually, only LOM fans look (and read stories of) LOM builds, and if I stated a series which would attract non-LOM fans and LOM fans, I may reach my goal of 6-10 likes per creation.

Just wondering if this would be looked upon as "piracy" or just "ungratefulness" or even "rüdënēss" by some of the community.

Not that I'm likely to get a response in this 90% dead group, which IMO was once the beating heart of mocpages. :,(

Well, this is what I'll say here:

LOM is basically dead. I personally am swamped with school right now, and have found no time to work towards anything LOM-related.

For those still interested in LOM and its lore, however, I do have an antidote: sometime within the next year (probably before that, but no promises) the LOM staff hope to basically rewrite the LOM system. Rather than trying to be all secret-y and stuff, I'll spill the beans here: the current plan is to ditch the points system, the rules system, the UC system, all of it. Instead, the new system is focused around writing and MOCing in the LOM as it has been established; in short, it will now be a story-writing group centered more upon member interaction to form unique and interesting stories and MOCs.

I'm sure when we officially roll it out things will be more clear, but for now this is what you got.

In the new LOM, all members will basically be a part of the same guild; a writer's guild. This basically opens it up so that in your story, you may have whatever guild you like (within reason).

We would certainly welcome you!

The idea with the new system is to give members... well, basically complete freedom. We'll probably start with writing a 'future' timeline that goes up until a certain point, and then people are allowed to write up a story at any period in the history. It could even work if one member wanted to write the story and another one wanted to build MOCs to go along with it.

I'm hoping to type up a set of rules and stuff for it after finals, which end about mid-May. Also, we might create a completely new group... or at least lock all the old threads.

Yeah, I assume the staff will keep the factions (or at least the nations). As Reese said, the staff plans on writing a timeline to a certain point form this point onward. I don't think the lore/world itself will be changed, only the system.

The lore of the factions/nations will not change, and you can still affiliate with one faction over another, but there won't really be a need to join a faction like it was in the past because we aren't keeping track of points. Also, you can write a story for any character you create, and that character can be from any faction you choose. The limits are being removed.

Albeit, I too don't really want to remove it because it is fun joining a faction and such, but there really won't be a need for it.

The city of nostrogel is just like any other busy city, for example, with its own trained milita.

But anyway, most poeple join nerouge. Time to stand out from the crowd, Markey. :D

Nerogue is more organized because it's people are also more united. The Outlaws will fight for their home, but at the same time their loyalties are primarily to themselves and watching out for their own assets.

Nerogue is completely united under one banner; they have a centralized government made up of two councils (a high and a lower council) which determine laws and such. The outlaws have a leader... but even then none of them are bound to obey what he says. He is just a respected figure.

Ah, but with a low level of organization comes a high level of individuality and personal freedom. :P

Actually though, the outlaws have the High Outlaw Council as well as the city leaders and a kind of representative body type thing underneath the council. I don't remember the exact details but I wrote it all down on the Outlaws wiki page.

Actually, the city leaders are pretty strict. Tucker has cracked down on elpis's black market and I'm going to do something similar for nostrogel. As it's the outlaw's traveller hub, so I can't have my poeple (and myself) rob the newcomers, who are allies and merchants.

Each city has a council (of some description) and nostrogel has two- the major and minor council. And seeing about 90% of our population can fight pretty well we have a bigger fighting force (I would say army, but that's debatable) then you think.

And we have 20 rangers to help keep the peace. But that is Less then NerOUGE I guess.

And you do listen to wha the corordinator says. Or else you may find yourself with an arrow through your neck.

No one gets high in the outlaw ranks if you've been killed by either one of the corordinator's milita, or if you've been ,undereducated by a hired criminal gang of his.

True, in the Outlaw faction you can be antyhing, wear anything, and we probably do have the highest acceptance of music-fits and non-human creatures.

I didn't get the chance to work things out with the black market before the dwarf attack :P

I actually have a theory that Armon is not human, but is in fact a dwarf! He has an obsession with treasure, particularly gold (shocker, I know). He's also said to be short. The one thing against this is that he doesn't have and presumably can't grow a beard.

Hey I have a question regarding the timeline. How far are you (the staff) planning on writing the timeline?

We have yet to come to an agreement as to whether the staff will be controlling the timeline at all. I personally would like world-events (the stuff that was in the UCs) to be determined by everyone in a group effort, but the new system hasn't been finalized, so I can't way or sure if that's how it will turn out.

MOCpages had its golden years, and now with an outdated site and "hacky" commands it's kind of making everything else collapse. LOM was probably MOCpages' last hurrah, which is kind of cool if you think about it.

That said, I think what you're doing now with the more centralized storyline between dedicated members is a good move.
It's cool to see people still interested in Nerogue ;)

I've seen a decrease in activity with LoR as well, though they seem to have a few more dedicated long-time members that are still building for it. LoR members are also used to a forum format so they were able to have a moderately successful migration (though the migration was also the beginning of its rather sudden decline).

I think the Guilds of Historica is really the only RPG that has stayed vibrant since its start. Likely because it was the first and has, what, 10 people running it? Sure there have been leadership changes but the behind-the-scenes has been constant. That combined with never having to move to a new platform or having to deal with a troublesome and outdated platform surely helped its longevity despite new groups.

German LEGO fans have the 9 Kingdoms RPG which is probably easier for them to join and build for due to it being in their own language. So far that seems to have a strong future, partly because it's probably the first German RPG.

Anyways, I look forward to your continuing adventures through MOCs and stories, albeit in a different format than this once was.

Hey guys, I'm not sure how many of you will remember me. I was active here like two to three years ago.

Recently I've just been revising my old fantasy writing and ruminating, and reviewing the treasure trove on MOCpages. Like everyone else I'm sad to see LOM go, or at least what it used to be. LOM seemed to attract all the TFOL's of the LEGO community, and the youthful energy and creativity together with a core of inspiring leaders and builders like Gilbert Despathens, Thomas of Tortuga, Halhi and David FNJ among all the other names of old managed to make this group not only a pile of fun but a source of inspiration for builders and writers alike. It was certainly one of my big stepping stones to joining the LEGO community, enhancing my creative scope and improving my writing skills. Unfortunately, being proudly South African, LEGO here isn't as affordable or widely available as it is in Europe or the States. It's one of my great lamentation that I couldn't stay longer among you great folks.

But once I've matured as a writer (and survived my Matric year), I can finally put to use the great stack of pages of fantasy I've written, all of which wouldn't have been possible without this here group.

But as many of us have gotten older, we've had less time for this sort of thing. While it's great to see that new people have continued to join the LOM numbers, I think that without all the old crowd it just isn't the same. What has allowed Historica to thrive has had nothing to do with the setting or the site it's based on, but because of its dedicated group of AFOLs who were less likely to drop off the radar due to school or university. Not to mention the recognition it's gained over the years by the LEGO internet community. You mustn't beat yourselves up on supposéd shortcomings or limitations; LOM was the bomb. Be as proud to be/have been LOMers as much as I am.

So, as a word from behind the group, I encourage you all to continue the pursuit of your writing and building hobbies, and best of luck to the new management who plan to keep this grand old ship afloat.

Anyways, I look forward to your continuing adventures through MOCs and stories, albeit in a different format than this once was.

Thank you for the encouragement. :) It's great to have support for our change of format from one of the true "oldies" / legends of the LOM. (You're the first person in months to post in this group who joined the LOM before I did :P ).

It's interesting that you should mention the 9 Kingdoms RPG, because what they have done (I have the great fortune of being able to read the rules) is set very precise procedures for gameplay, with players taking turns and performing specific actions, all of which are defined in the setup of the game. It follows a very strict structure with an emphasis on gameplay rather than story.
Our hopes for the LOM are basically the opposite to this. The LOM has always been one of the RPGs that provided the most freedom to participants in terms of story, and we hope to take this further by getting rid of all the systems we've introduced over the years which sound fun in theory but in actuality are just way too complicated. We hope to focus the group completely on story, because really that's what the LOM has always been about.

Thanks for stopping by David. If you ever feel like coming back and chipping in a moc or two, you will most certainly be welcome. :)

On the contrary, best time. We're tweaking the system to get rid of points, ranks, MP faction groups (although the in-game factions still exist as countries) and monthly challenges. When the new system is up and running, you'll be able to build MOCs set in any time period of LOM's history, from the ancient dwarf empire to centuries after the game has taken place so far.

As a former LEGO Gallery man myself, I have to admit that the first thing I did when I joined LOM was make a topic which ofc was immediately locked. xD Sadly the gallery has even fewer good builders than the mocpages and as such I doubt it will ever draw much meaningful attention again. I have no idea where that trust issue came from, but in a word; no, not really. You're too much like I was and with that much being said, I wouldn't trust that old me with my life. I am a new creation(2 Corinthians 5:11-21) and as such I'm called to judge others, but not before I judge myself(Luke 12:56-58). I am a sinner (Romans 3:21-26), truly I do not deserve the grace of salvation which I accepted. I deserve far less,"For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord." Romans 6:23.

Most people outside of lego.com consider lego.com to be too full of scrubs and the idea of it being worth their time is absurd. Looking back now I don't see much in the way of actual building on the site. Just kids putting a few pieces together generally. Not sure how much you can inspire that, especially with most members there being so young. The best way for improvement to occur is when they get older and discover the mocpages and possibly later flickr. It's how I improved from awful to bad so they could do the same :P

Not sure how much you can inspire that, especially with most members there being so young. The best way for improvement to occur is when they get older and discover the mocpages and possibly later flickr. It's how I improved from awful to bad so they could do the same :P

Wait, you improved? :P

I came from there too. You just have to move on to better things sometimes. No shame in humble beginnings unless you cling onto them when there's a chance to improve yourself. For me it was just a good place to keep in touch with LEGO Universe fans but that community seems to have moved on also and they were some of the most creative people on the site.

I believe that if you stayed there there would be more better builders due to inspiration. But since all the good ones "Moved on" there is a lack of motivation.

Nah. Even some of the lower skilled builders here refuse to accept criticisms they are given and so fail to improve despite being surrounded by a lot of good builders. When I was on the gallery it was the same except there were no good builders on the level we have here. Basically the only real way to show motivation is to go to the better builders for advice and improvement, not expect them to come to you. I certainly know what the best builders in this group think of the gallery, you really don't want to know.

Because that's the internet. It'd be like that here were it not for the incredibly long threads and long lists of creations, but most sites are like that. Especially wikis, because Fandom just puts in as many adds as physically possible, and more.

So what’d I miss?
What’d I miss?
Virginia, my home sweet home, I wanna give you a kiss
I’ve been in Paris meeting lots of different ladies...
I guess I basic’lly missed the late eighties...
I traveled the wide, wide world and came back to this…

So what’d I miss?xD

There’s a letter on my desk from the President
Haven’t even put my bags down yet
Sally be a lamb, darlin’, won’tcha open it?
It says the President’s assembling a cabinet
And that I am to be the Secretary of State, great!
And that I’m already Senate-approved...
I just got home and now I’m headed up to New York

I joined this group to ask Freeling ++ a question. Correct me if I'm wrong, but by looking at the convos, you are the creator of The Lands of Mythron. I love the idea of this but it isn't my style, nor does it fit with my bricks. I was wondering if you mind if I make a sort of spin off. It defiantly won't get as big as this, that's for sure. I was going for a Sci-fi theme. I would basically copy your idea and change it to my liking, which is why I wanted to ask your permission. I would give LOM credit (or not if you'd rather not). Just loved the idea, but not my style. Plus, I can't currently play because it's on hold. This also isn't a for sure thing, I just got the idea from looking at your page. But it's best to ask before getting all the work done and then being told no.

If that idea still involves making an RPG, forget it. It's a bit pointless to make one unless there's demand. But if you wanted to go ahead, I made one that lasted for 8-9 months. But most don't get more then that, apart from TI,LOM, and ROAE.

Anyway, I would like to note that just because the new ruling system hasn't been released yet doesn't mean you can't build for LOM or write stories; the group is still open to new creations and stuff.

The primary change is that right now you can write in any time period of LOM and ranks are being completely rewritten.

Just so you guys know, our plan right now is to (once it's finished) release our new expanded timeline and rank system. We also hope to rewrite non-canon parts of the wiki and keep it updated.

I'm breathing, I just spend most of my time in the actual LOM world, since this reality is so boring.

If anyone wants to know how to get to the alternate LOM reality, then too bad. You must discover it yourself.

If you need anything I will probably be absent in this reality.

Nope, just new rules for the current group. We'll replace the main page with new rules and stuff, make some new threads, and overall make the group more open.

On a more serious note, when will the new system be announced? I am rushing to finish Season 2, so I can start Season 3 with the new system.

A few of you already tried, but I have rejected your applications until it is ready.

This one is incredibly cluttered with old threads and such. Thus, we feel like it would be better to have a shiny new group to work in.

Just so everyone knows, I have (basically) archived this group. You may no longer add creations or join the group. We would also ask that once everyone moves to the new group this group is not commented in again.

(we may decide to remove all members)

The group will still be visible and readable, however, even if you are not in it.

Yep yep, I guess this is my last comment in this group, also, removing people from the group will also remove their mocs from the group...

Didn't know that... I guess we'll leave everyone in the group.

Once we move to the new group, however, please don't continue on in conversation here.
