Ladies and Gentlemen, boys and girls, children of all ages, the MOCAthalon judges proudly bring to you, the 2014 MOCAthalon champions of the wooooorld! John 55555, David Hensel, Captain Infinity, Elliott Feldman and Lego Junkie! TEAM JIGSAW!!!!!
It is my honour to announce the winning team by over 100 points and be the first to congratulate them for a monstrous effort throughout the contest. Each of the five members contributed at least one perfect score of 25 to the total of 600 points, with Captain Infinity racking up 4 perfect scores alone – joint top individual in the contest for perfect scores along with Matt Rowntree. Evan and Elliott both posted three perfect scores each. They also posted the most perfect scores as a team with 12 in total. I haven’t yet worked out highest scoring individual players but expect this team to be represented when I do.
Average score was 22.22 points per build, second only to 1-man team The Last Brickbenders – see below for a full list of points, builds, averages, etc.
In second place we have The Plastic Surgeons with 486 points. As mentioned above, Matt Rowntree posted 4 perfect scores out of his 6 builds and David Alexander Smith posting 2 more from 7 builds in total, giving them the second-most perfect scores too with 6. With good scoring contributions by the TFOL trio of Abby Francis, Garett Smith and Lando L Jackson, we applaud The Plastic Surgeons for a strong showing.
In the final spot on the podium we have Five Bricks of flame. No perfect scores here, but sheer volume of builds pushed the most prolific team into third place and close to second. As noted in my facts and figures thread, T.J. Pownell, Nathan Pownell and Kevin Moyer were amongst the most prolific individuals for builds and with Calvin and JOG Josh O, they put a steady stream of solid builds in throughout the contest and are thoroughly deserving of their bronze-medal position (sorry guys, there are no real medals, but feel free to imagine some really cool ones!).

Special mention to Tim S, the only contributing member to The Last Brickbenders. He posted 6 builds himself, including 3 perfect scores, his lowest score was a 22 and his average was 24 points. If this guy had teammates, who knows what they could have done…..
I will follow up over the next few days with some more facts and figures now we have all the scores. Thanks for all the kind words about those folks, nice to have your efforts appreciated! It’s been a slog getting everything together but also a lot of fun. I now plan to go around and finally leave some comments too. Thanks to Chris for inviting me to take part (I’ll get you back!), my fellow judges for their efforts in marking and administering and all of you for your month’s hard work. I love to see the effort put into the MOCAthalon and it’s a completely different pace to the MOC-Os (10 days building, 3 days avoiding sorting, and repeat) and you all have my utmost admiration for that.
Congratulations to all of you, and especially Team Jigsaw!
Third? I'll take it.
Congratulations to Team Jigsaw and the Plastic Surgeons! It's an honor standing (figuratively) on the podium with you. It was a great competition, and I hope to compete again next year!
A big thanks to you judges and Stuart for all your hard work! Permalink
Congratulations, Team Jigsaw on the amazing, well deserved First Place win!!! And wow, second place is not at all what I was expecting when I signed up for this!
Thank you to the Judges for putting this together but mostly to my Team, The Plastic Surgeons. You guys were always there with your support and talk of Curry recipes. XP Seriously, you guys were great.
Congrats to all the teams who participated! Yes, even Clutch Builders. XP You guys are all very talented and it was so much fun to go build with/against you.
Maybe I got a bit carried away with this... XP Permalink
Congratulations to Teams Jigsaw, Plastic Surgeons, and Five Bricks of Flame! You guys were all amazing!
It was a great experience competing in this contest and I really enjoyed it.
A huge Thank you to all the judges, especially Stu, for all the hard work and commitment you guys had running the show. I can only imagine how difficult it is to be a judge/scorekeeper in the MocAthalon!
Fantastic showing everyone! I hope to see you all again next year! Permalink
Congratulations to Team Jigsaw! Absolutely stellar performance from each of you. I am in awe at the quality of builds as well as the volume there. (Lego Junkie with 9? Are you kidding me!?! XD ) Fantastic job guys, a true marathon performance that I'm proud to be second to.
Thank you judges, especially Stu! Numbers are SO MUCH FUN! XP
Thank you to everyone participating and watching, some real leg stretching going on in the builds. It's always good to see people expand their repertoire and get their feet wet in builds they would never have considered attempting. Good show!
The Plastic Surgeons will return! (We'll forgo the anesthesia next time.) ;)
I'd just like to say thanks to all my teammates, especially Elliott and the indefatigable Lego Junkie! Thanks to all the judges for their hard work. And thanks to our opponents for their great builds throughout the contest. :~) Permalink
This is truly an honor. I wasn't sure where we'd place, but third is pretty satisfactory! Thanks to the judges for putting on this contest, and huge congratulations to Team Jigsaw and the Plastic Surgeons.
Congratulations to Team Jigsaw! You guys pulled out all of the stops this year with tons fantastic builds!
Thanks for the shoutout Stu, I had lots of fun even though my team members dropped out halfway through the contest. Though Kyle Ransom did actually finish one build - but I think he forgot to add it to our group pool. Oh well. I still think it's funny how I ended up in unlucky 13th place XP I was hoping to have a more competitive team, but I recognize that life comes before Lego.... at least sometimes :D
Either way though, I thoroughly enjoyed myself in the contest this year and hope to be able to compete again at some point in the future! Maybe next time I'll have an actual team XD
Thanks again to the judges for all your hard work and to the competition for spurring me on to better builds! Permalink
Great categories, fantastic team mates, diligent judges, tons of fun. It has been a great contest this year, and I'm looking forward to next year already. I managed to up my game from last year with a couple of perfect fives. And lest we forget a big shout out to Chris, who makes this all happen - thanks, MOCPages owes you so much! Permalink
Congratulations Jigsaw, 'bout time you guys took home the gold!
Well done to all the teams, there were some really terrific entries and some hard-working individuals. Speaking of hard work, thanks to the judges, organisers, and scorekeepers for your toil and trouble - this contest is so fun you managed to attract a team of players who didn't even have time to play. ;)
Hopefully I'll see you all around next year for another round, cheers! Permalink
Congratulations winners! And everyone really, for making this one heck of a contest to watch! And thanks for all your hard work judges, especially you Stu for taking on all those numbers. Cheers! Permalink
It's certainly been a journey to get here. four years since starting, we finally get to the top of the podium.
Even though the members of team jigsaw have varied each year, the bond that the Mocathalon creates over the course of a solid month of building is amazing.
Huge thanks to all my teammates, but especially Elliot Feldman, and Captain Infinity, the show you guys put on was nothing short of incredible.
If I was to give awards out to my teammates, they'd have to be as follows.
John, the only other original member of team jigsaw from 2011, got his first perfect score this year, after four years of competing! Most Stubborn Player goes to john, for getting back up every time somebody threw a two or three at him.
Captain Infinity gets the award for Most Improved Player over the three years he's been competing. From 2's and 3's the first year, to four perfects out of seven builds this year!
Elliot was the wildcard, and the person who knocked me out of the MocOlympics last year, so I knew I had to snag his talent. I'm glad I did, because he gets the MVP for Team Jigsaw this year.
David Hensel only managed to get in three builds (same number as John), but with the sheer amount of schoolwork he was doing, it's a miracle he did any. David gets the Most Determined Player award!
And finally, huge thanks to all the judges for putting in the time and effort that a massive contest like this requires. I can't even imagine the hours that it must have taken out of your guys' month to judge/score/tally all the entries. My hat is off to you gentlemen!
Wonderful job everyone!!!! Sorry I have been very busy with school but in 3 weeks I'll be back with lego!!! I have had a great experience seeing so many great builds. Good job everyone and I hope to see you next year! Congrats and goodbye! Permalink
Congratulations, Jigsaw! All of your creations were phenomenal, you surely deserved the win. Participating in the games with team Plastic Surgeons was a *graft*ifying experience (yes, that was a *stretch*... ;) ) okay I'm done. But anyway, being invited to a team with four such very talented builders was quite the honor and pleasure. Permalink
Cool. ... ... ... But seriously, I had a blast this year! Honestly, the MocAthalon has to be my favorite LEGO competition. It offers a competitive, yet cooperative environment like no other contest I've come across, and it allows for all kinds of builds/building styles with its 30 unique categories. So keep it up Chris and gang! To everyone on Jigsaw, you guys are all great and I had a blast building (figuratively) right alongside you! Evan, thanks for inviting me to the team in the first place! Special shout-out to coach Simon for the pointers/encouragement! To all the other teams, great work! Towards the end I thought it could be anyone's game! Just keep building, guys (and gals)! :) Permalink
Congratulations Jigsaw! I'm super stoked that you won, the sheer amount of quality builds you all put out was breathtaking, and it was an honor competing builders whom I admire so much.
A hearty thanks to all the community at large as well, this was my first MocAthalon and I see what all the hype is about, it is an experience like nothing else, and my hat is off to you all!
Another huge thank you to the judges, you guys seriously rock. The sheer amount of hard work you put into judging (and lets not forget the score keeping!) is stunning, and I applaud you for your hard work. Thank you guys!
And lastly, a thank you to my team. You guys worked your butts off while dealing with school and other life issues, and we got 4th place. That's a pretty monumental achievement in my eyes :) You all were seriously the best, and it was a pleasure building with you! Permalink
Congrats to Team Jigsaw! I'll be getting with you guys about the prizes very soon so please watch your team group.
To my judges... wow, you guys rock! To be able to go through and weigh nearly 300 entries against it's peers is a truly daunting task and you guys really all stepped up to the plate! And to Stu especially. Yes, you'll be well justified in getting me back. Nothing but love brother, thank you SO much for everything you've done! And with a (preverbial) smile on your face the whole time! Like I said in the other place, there are no words to describe just how awesome you are!
To the players. Guys and girls. Every year I say to myself that this'll be the last year for whatever contest it is and every year I'm blown away by the entires, dedication and enthusiasm that you all put in. Often I'm thanked for putting these contests on but really, NONE of these contests would happen without each and every one of you! Thank you all SO much for making MOCpages what it is, a TRUE community of builders!
That's it for the 2014 MocAthalon. I haven't spoken with Xeno yet as to a contest for the summer but he usually hosts a superhero contest in late June/early July so be on the lookout for that!
Also, my next contest will be the 2014 MocOlympics! The contest will be grueling as usual and I hope to see each and every one of you there! In addition to the MocOlympics, those that don't make the "top 64" cut have usually (not last year, but usually) been invited to the MOCpages Invitational Tournament (or MIT). I've been working on some fun twists and turns for that this year so if you don't make the top 64, there's still plenty of incentive for the fun that'll be the MIT! Just wait'll you see what my twisted little mind has come up with...
And with that said, thank you all again and we'll see you in August for signups for the MocOlympics! Permalink
Congrats to Team Jigsaw! You guys really put up a show this year, and have finally claimed the gold (figuratively)! After watching you guys play in the MocAthalon the last 3 years, it was a pleasure to be a judge of this amazing contest when you claimed first! Amazing job guys, well done!
To my judges, fantastic job everyone! It was a pleasure to work alongside you, I had a lot of fun coming up with the categories, discussing them, editing them, etc with you all! A HUGE thank you to Stu, you were very kind to step up to the job of scorekeeper even when you did not want it. Thanks again! :) A hearty cheer for Mr. Phipson, for coming up with this fantastic contest years ago, and always bringing it back, never failing! This website would not be the same without you!
To the competitors, amazing job guys, you really blew me away with the quality of your entries! You all really stepped up your game for this contest, I had tons of fun judging your entries! It was also great to see how each team worked together so well, communicating with each other, posting a picture for their teammates to critique before they enter it, talking about curry recipes.....oh wait. ;) The camaraderie between all of you was truly amazing to see.
A big shout out to Tim S., he really amazed me this year, all his builds were top-knotch, and he even got 13th place out of 23 for being the only one who built! You sir are very talented, I hope you continue to build and have fun with this toy/hobby/ART! I am looking forward to more amazing builds this year! :)
This was truly one of the most craziest, hectic, but fun time of the year, I look forward to what the rest of this year shall bring! Thanks to all who participated, and build on! :) See you in the MocOlympics (hopefully, if time and life allows)! :)
Congrats Jigsaw crew! Well-played and well-deserved! It was a pleasure to build beside such talented builders during my first outing.
And thank you to the judges for all of their efforts! I do not envy your decisions, but I appreciate your hard work.
And thanks to my team for picking me up! I almost passed this year by, but got snatched up by four fine lads who let me have fun for a while! It was a great contest and coming in 6th ain't too shabby! Permalink
Congrats Jigsaw, you guys really put on a tremendous showing.
Thanks for the judges, both for their time, and for the awesome categories. I had lots of fun building for them.
And lastly, I want to say thanks to my teammates. 4th place isn't to bad, especially since some of us were new to it. Great work guys, it was a pleasure to participate with you, and I hope we can do it again next year. Permalink
