Welcome to Round 2 of the Middle Earth Lego Olympics! If you’re among the thirty-two remaining contestants, we highly recommend that you brush up on the rules:

http://www.mocpages.com/group_conversation.php?id=24760&topicid=99226

Certain rules change between Round 1 and the elimination rounds, so it's important to note the differences. Also, please carefully read all of the following before asking any potential questions:

Round 2 ends at 11:59pm MOCpages time on 1/18/15. That gives you just under ten days to build!

The theme for this round’s categories is Characters from The Hobbit. Each pair of contestants will be given one name. Take the name and craft a MOC highlighting the given character. Your build could be anything from a standalone brick built figure to an elaborate scene! But whatever you do, your entry should specifically highlight the character from your category. Your interpretation can be from the books or the films. Tolkien usually gives each of his characters at least one or two unique attributes and a segment of story that singles them out. Take the dwarves for example. In the book they each have different colored hoods/beards and a specific character trait/skill set. In the movies they each have a unique look and also different character traits/skill sets. These rounds might require a little bit of research, so get to it!

Required for all Round 2 entries:

-Title your entry: MELO Round 2: [your name] vs. [your opponent’s name]

-State your bracket (Barad Dur or Orthanc) FIRST THING in the intro box. As there are two sets of judges, this immediately informs them if you’re in their bracket or not. It’s a courtesy!

-Provide a WORKING link to your opponent’s homepage or entry (depending on which of you posts first), placed preferably near the top of your entry’s page. You can also include a link to the MELO homepage if you’d like (appreciated, but not required).

-State you’re category, preferably near the top of your page.

What is "MOCpages time"?

I think it's roughly EST, but if you're not sure, just post a comment. Comments always show MOCpages time when they're posted (next to the permalink/delete/edit options and the date). Your question was posted at 1:45pm.

Well... Just finished mine last night... I'm gonna wait for Mate to post his though cuz I kinda need to tweak a ton of stuff with mine... eh. It's pretty good. Mate might beat me just cuz his will probably be a ton bigger. (O)_(O)

Good luck with your entries, folks! May the best dwar-- builder win! :P

Actually, it is a lot smaller than I usually go. I usually go 64x64 but one is 48x32, so less than half. Anyway like Ian said they judge off quality not quantity.
I plan to post Saturday night, so you have a day to make any needed "tweeks". Though the reason I always post Saturday night is just in case something goes wrong on the last day.
Good luck to you Graeme, your builds are pure and awesome quality ~ Mate

We judge on quality of build alone. Size can help sometimes, but only if the MOC itself is solid.

At least Gloin actually says something ;-; I got Bifur, who can't actually speak and only gets about five mins of screen-time :P.
How about the scene in DOS where Gloin won't give up his money? That displays his greed, and then his loyalty to the mission I guess. Hope this helps. :)

And Round 2 is officially over! To all who competed, thank you for a truly splendid array of entries. The diversity and creative you all brought to the table is something to be proud of. As I look at the match-ups and all the talent on both sides, I can honestly say there are multiple builders I'll be sorry to see go. Thank you again folks.

But now to put all niceties on the back burner and pass some grueling judgments...

Lord willing, Round 3 will launch on Thursday the 22nd.

From personal experience, I usually divide my judging up over 2 days. Viewing, deciding, and then writing up comments for 16 entries takes a long time. That compiled with busy schedules, school, work and whatnot....

Basically, what I’m saying is, it’s the first day of judging. They’ll get to you, don’t worry! :)
