Thanks for offering your help, but we already have our total number of 6 judges (+ the tie-breaker judge) And also, I'm sorry to tell you, that we really CAN'T let a person judge who doesn't like LOTR. That would be even more crazy than a fish who doesn't like water :D

I am sooo excited for this and really interested in entering!! However, depending on how far into the contest I make it, I'm moving back to the states around June 15th so it might be a little hard to pack/build/unpack during that round.

This is a heads up either that I can give my spot to someone who loses in R2 or maybe, just maybe- get an extension.

Either way, I'm excited to watch and at least enter R1. This has always been one of my favorite contests for one of my favorite themes. :) Cheers for bringin' it back!!

Also - are you planning on creating a Flickr Group for those active on there?

You're entering!!!!! Awesome!!!!! This will be great watching you, and I hope I don't face you... :/ :D Anyways, I am on the planning team, and we are not opening it to Flickr... We have advertised all around, so we got a bunch of members from that... :D

Hi Sir Flexalot!

Thanks for joining MELO and creating an entry! I read the criticism on your creation and I agree with parts of it. The main photo looks good, but unfortunately people can't see much of the build, so my advice is: Please try to add some more pictures of your MOC from different camera angles, so that the judges have more photos to work with for a score.

This is going to sound harsh but all of you need to stop with the positive reinforcement right now. It's not helping at all. The 'MOC' in question has zero qualities worthy of merit and the builder needs to understand this for them to continue a building career.

Sir flexalot, what you did was put black plates next to each other, add a tile and stand the plates up horizontal in front of a fig. Nothing you did is varied or complex enough to be called a 'technique'. Nothing you did here required any kind of thought or skill. None of this is meant in a mean-spirited way, rather I just desperately hope you realise how this is simply not a MOC and that more effort and thought will be required of you in future to ensure what you post can be counted as a MOC. Constructive criticism is far more important to receive than compliments also so be sure to be more accepting when people criticise your MOCs in future. For now I suggest you take a look at the work of other builders to see if you can find any inspiration. You may want to keep things simple to begin with. I'd also suggest just practising a few things first before posting MOCs online to ensure quality but that one is more a matter of personal choice.

I have a better idea, and some of what was said did, whether intentional or not, did come across as harsh. I will post what I believe is post-worthy, whether others agree or not, and I believe it was post-worthy. Thank you for trying to help, but I disagree with what you've said about the fact that said MOC was "not a MOC". MOC stands for My Own Creation, and that is mine, and I created it. Now, dreadful day to you, sir.

I can't argue with you posting what you wish, though my recommendations stand.

As for it being your MOC. What do you believe is special or interesting about it? Specifically. Have a long think about it.

I must insist that you do not dispute criticism also. Take care to listen and learn from your mistakes. It is the ONLY way you can improve. Whether you're just starting out, medium skilled or even one of the greatest builders of our time, criticism is still the most valuable thing you will find in your MOC's comments section. Unless of course you're Mark of Falworth, in which case you block anyone who criticises you, but since you're not, I'm hoping you'll be more open to guidance.

Have an absolutely smashing day.

Hi sir flexalot and johnnyboy,

You both made your point. Now, stop the discussion and start building. Sir flexalot, as I've stated before, your build was hardly a build. It would not have given you lots of points. It's just plates with a tile on it. I can build that in 2 minutes. That's not much. Take more time and look at builds from other people, look at builds from the contest last year. There are Great examples of relatively simple builds for a starting builder. Good luck and stop with the discussion.

Greetz, Elio

First, the was plenty unshown, and I've already got an idea for my entry. Thank you

Unless of course you're Mark of Falworth, in which case you block anyone who criticizes ('z') you, but since you're not, I'm hoping you'll be more open to guidance.

In Mark's defense, he doesn't ban all who criticize him: I've criticized him, and I'm not banned. He just cares more than some do that you're polite about it; just trying to make things clear, not drag on an annoying convo - over and out.

You're acting like this "plenty unshown" being entirely out of frame is somehow not your fault. As the builder, the burden of presentation is on you and it is your responsibility to do your best to get a good photo of your build. This isn't about how good your camera is, it's about putting some time and effort into contemplating the best angle to capture your build from. Take multiple shots. Choose the best. Research basic photo composition techniques to get a better intrinsic feel for how to present your builds well. Start getting into photo editing if you like; it's an invaluable skill.

Just don't act like we should care that there's ~hypothetical good stuff~ hidden out of view. If you wanted people to judge your build as a whole and not like a fig on a horse in front of a plate, your photo should have included something other than a fig on a horse in front of a plate.

I do photo editing. Rather well if I say so myself. Also, that is not my entry, can we just stop acting as if it is.

I was wondering that, too.

Maybe because I removed a Star Wars landspeeder from this group. Or maybe a new MOC needs to go through moderation...

It has been brought to our attention that a lot of people are not satisfied with the Round 2 seeding. The current method is to match up 1st with 32nd, 2nd and 31st, 3rd and 30th, etc.

What I was thinking is to have something like 1st vs 17th, 2nd vs 18th, 3rd vs 19th, etc. in which each match has an equal difference between ranks. What do you think?

It would be definitely more fair to the competitors that worked hard to do well in Round 1 if we leave the seating the same. For those that didn't do so well, they have motivation to really push to do well in Round 1 next year.

I don't think this is a good idea. The original method gives builders of an incentive to build better. the 1 v 17 method would make it meaningless where you placed.

Yes, that shows that just because a person ranked low doesn't automatically mean they're a bad builder. This year you placed 13th!

They have this discussion with every contest, every year. People never seem to understand these systems are designed to eliminate the lower skilled builders/builders who did not perform, not boost them up to an easier level. :P
It's the only fair way to have 1v32 etc.

It probably wouldn't be kosher, but I could be the tiebreaker for this round if that worked out (it might just be more of a hassle than it's worth though).

Thanks for the offer, W Navarre! You are not a candidate, right? Then it wouldn't be against the rules if you were the tie-breaker. We will wait a few more hours for Evan though. If he doesn't add his scores until then, you can help us out. Thanks again! :)
