“Fear both the heat and the cold of your heart, and try to have patience, if you can.” ~ Tolkien

At last, here are the standings you have been waiting for.

Since there were 32 entries, instead of cutting half of you, we have decided to let everyone move on to Round 2.

Remember that scores are out of 60. I've split the names into groups of 8 so you can find your exact ranking easily. Here we go:

-----

Mark McPeek - 58
Hugo Teixeira - 56
Oliver Becker - 52
Caleb Walker - 51
John Snyder - 51
Carter Witzenburg - 50
Classical Bricks - 50
Ed Rekishi - 49

Mr. Unknown - 47
Roanoke Handybuck - 46
Sam J. - 44
Soccer Socks - 44
Choco Taco - 41
Mountain Hobbit - 40
Kingdomview Bricks - 39
KevFett 2011 - 37

The Grey Man - 36
C Stucky - 35
Joel Tyer - 35
Rum Ham - 34
Snappin Bricks - 33
ST M. - 31
Evan Pennau - 30
Future L Designer - 30

Razzle Jazzle - 30
TMNS 5097 - 29
-{ Emperor Neron }- (David.H) - 27.5
-=joepwnage =- - 27
Lego Hotwirer - 23
Jacob Moon - 19
Sir Flexalot - 17
Samuel "samiamuc" Charbula - 37 (automatically last due to late entry)

Note that some builders may be tied. For now, tied builders are ranked alphabetically, but that may change until the tiebreaker judge comes along.

Best of luck in round 2!

Wait...I'm confused. You said that 32 contestants would be moving on, but I count only 32 (unless I'm just, missing someone because I'm tired) including myself. Does this mean that I am not disqualified, only given the bottom rank? I know that at leat two judges specifically said that I would be disqualified due to my tardiness, and I am willing to accept that and simple watch from here on out. If I am not counting incorrectly, though, and I have been graciously allowed a second chance, I would like know for sure.

2. Please read stuff more carefully. The tie breaker judge will
Come Along and put them in order. I believe we find out who that judge is in one of the rules threads.

Just an observation by me, but pretty much every elimination contest that I've ever seen or participated in matches the highest seed vs. the lowest seed. MELO and the MOCOLympics have always used that format.

This happens in the playoffs for various sports as well, like basketball, baseball, and hockey, etc., as it is an incentive to do better during the season/tournament so that you will face (potentially) weaker opposition to start.

Matchups in contests are always done this way so that those who did well in Round 1 have an advantage in Round 2. I've been near the bottom of the Round 1 rankings a number of times, and I agree that it gets very difficult to move on from Round 2. However, this is more fair to those that did do well because they have a smaller chance of being eliminated early on.

Think of it this way: if you do well in the first round, you stand more chance of moving on as a reward.

I don't think that our format is unfair. We've used it since our first MELO in 2012. It's always 1 vs 1 (which is a fair thing) and MELO is a building contest, so the best builder will win either way at the end. There is no reason why we should organize the contest in a way that allows the less strong builders to move on for another 1 or 2 rounds just because they got a less tough batte. After all it's called "qualifying round", so the people who put a lot of effort into their builds would be "rewarded" by reiceiving a less tough battle. The people ranked 31 and 32 on the other side would get a chance to prove that they can do a lot better, even against a strong opponent. And when I read that some contestants threw an entry together within only a few minutes while others spent days on theirs, I think it's only fair. That's my opinion.

I stand with the judges on this one. As unfair as it sounds, its only fair to allow those builders who worked harder on their round 1 entries to face off against those who didn't. Think about the builder who did hard work and ended up in 2nd. It wouldn't be fair if he had to face of the 1st place builder and one of the two best contestants (those who got the most out of the MONTH they had to build in) in the contest was disqualified in the second round due to seeding.

Well said, Michael. And just because you are ranked lower does not mean you will be eliminated by a higher ranked opponent. I've seen low seeds win before.

When you sit and think about it it's all that makes sense: otherwise the second best builder (maybe even the first!) might go out the first round: that shouldn't happen: the second best builder should come in second place at the end! And then, otherwise, it would give incentive to build worse, as you'd then have an easier opponent.

This is absolutely correct.

The MELO has always used this format, and when you think about it, every contestant will end up facing the better ones in the end no matter how we order it.

As a matter of fact this format is MORE fair. Contests aren't exactly made to be nice :P Although, some people would like that. Instead They are supposed to bring the best out of the best. If you're not liking this format try harder! It keeps people accountable and brings out the best out of everyone!

Thanks a lot btw for your kind comments on the MELO entries (I think you commented on every single build)! I think it's important for a contest that there are also some people watching it and showing that they like the contestants' MOCs. Thanks again!

Hey folks, sorry for the delay. Adulthood is unfortunately a bit distracting.

The ties were:

Caleb Walker V John Snyder, Caleb wins

Carter Witzenberg V Classical Bricks, Carter wins

Soccer Socks V Sam J, Sam wins

C Sticky V Joel Tyer, Joel wins

And a 3 way tie between Evan Pennau, Future L Designer, and Razzle Jazzle in which Evan takes first, Razzle takes second, and Future is third.

Hopefully that takes care of everything :D
