About the Java uploader
Join to comment
Hi guys,
I just wanted to ask about what's going to happen about the uploader. Will you be finding an alternative to the NPAPI format, or an alternative to Java? Though the page that you linked suggested using Internet Explorer and Safari, I've been unable to get it working on IE 11; I don't know about Safari because I don't have a Mac, but I'm assuming it's a similar deal there. I've yet to experiment with the simple uploader, so I don't know whether I'll be able to get that to work for me, but most of my pages have 20-80 pictures on them, and I can imagine that being pretty nightmarish to put them up through the 8-pics-at-a-time simple uploader. I know it's early days yet but I'm just kind of concerned, as I haven't heard about anything being done about it, and I don't see how this site is going to continue without a working uploader.
Thanks!

It doesn't work on Safari, I was able to get it working on Crome once but that no longer supports Java. :-(

Hi there guys, I have almost the same Problem: IE11, Java installed. Java said that it works perfectly after installing, but after trying to upload photos, there are oly black scares with a BLACK 8not a red!) X in them. Anyone knows how to fix that issue?

What's wrong with the simple uploader??
Nothing is working! No Java (It's a brandnew version and was running fine except that the pics are not visible after upload) and no working simple uploader?

Indeed, the simple uploader is not working as of the moment. Hopefully it will get back into working condition soon enough...

Well, I've tried whitelisting MOCpages on Java before, and it hasn't worked; it even said on the main page of this group that "the newer Java-based MOCpages uploader cannot be used, even if you whitelist MOCpages in the Java security settings." As for the second point, I've installed AOL and it doesn't work there either. I tried the simple uploader today and I couldn't even get one picture out of that. There's no way I can get Java to work on my Windows 10 computer, like, at all. I've tried everything I can think of, but I can't upload pictures at all, on any browser.

Look up the Chrome extension called "IE Tab". I use that to upload my pics. It basically emulates Internet Explorer in Chrome. So I would suggest using that, if using Chrome.

I've been having a similar issue.

With the first moc I posted, once I made Java trust the site, the pics uploaded fine. But with the two mocs I've uploaded since, I only get the black 'X's instead of images.

I also use internet explorer. Any ideas?

This is the "error" I get when using the simple uploader to upload the main pic:

http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/no7erics/Random/simple_uploader_error.png "Done! Buttttt it didn't work"

wait, what?

Does that last line about "Photo corrupt?" sound a little odd or presumptuous? I feel like that should be edited. Just putting it out there for the younger and less computer-inclined

Lol I don't know what AOL has to do with it :P

Forgive me if this has been covered but in order to USE the "fancy new Java uploader", I had to update my Java Security exempt list with "http://moc-pages.com"; (with sneaky that dash in there). Then I could USE it, it's just that pics don't upload anyway. The simple uploader gives that error message from my other comment and the java one just doesn't upload anything so I made a test page and it has no main pic! Which is kinda neat in itself...

tl;dr - for me, both uploaders "work", but the pics don't upload. Is this a problem everyone is having?

Still unable to upload.
The simple uploader works but the image is rejected afterward. I tried various images, from various formats (PNG, JPG), various sizes (100KB to 1MB), various filenames. Always rejected.

If at least there was a way to use our Flickr pictures to be set as the main photo on MOCPages....

Yes, well, what about those of us who a. do not have Flickr, b. those of us who do not want Flickr, c. those of us who do not want to go through the hassle of making a Flickr account, and d. those of us who want to post their pictures on MOC Pages? The reason that the people are complaining is that the reason that MOC Pages exists is simply because OF the pictures that people post on here, hence the name MOC Pages. I am not knocking things like Flickr, The Brothers Brick, etc., but, rather, what I am saying is that we are a service much like they are and if we can not post pictures here, then we might as well not exist, which is a shame as MOC Pages is indeed one of the better LEGO MOC building websites in the terms of variety, content, and general overall camaraderie. This is the point that the person that was complaining about was trying to get across to you, that, and they were also trying to fix a potentially huge problem with the website.

I'm pretty sure Firefox recently stopped supporting Java, I would recommend using the old uploader or trying other web browsers. :)

Yes in fact, that's why I tried even explorer but even signing out from Firefox I can't get in my personal page. Is frustrating with the simple uploaded because it says done but in the main photo appear only a gray screen.

Hello Antonio.

It seems that unfortunately some people experience problems uploading, even if they do things exactly as recommended.

My theory is that it has to do with the format of the pictures. It seems that while some .jpg files upload without problems, other files in the exact same format just won't work. What i would suggest you try is to open the files in paint, save them in another format (.bmp or other) and then open the new file in paint again and save them in .jpg format. Also be aware that the simple uploader won't accept files if they are too large, so you should also try to shrink the files to preferrably 800x600 pixels, or at least no larger than 1200x960 pixels. It's a lengthy process i know, and i can't guarantee that it works, but at least it's worth a try :-)

A quick question: Does the post turn up but without the pictures or is the post itself not visible?

If the entire post is not visible, it may be because your account is awaiting approval from the site moderators. In that case, all i can suggest is to have patience :-) The site moderators are currently extremely busy with life outside MOCpages, so unfortunately it might take a while before they log in to approve new accounts.

I hope this or the comment above about uploading helps you. Good luck and welcome to MOCpages :-)

Yes did that exactly as you said. I solved now cutting again the photo until fitted. The problem is the software do not say what is wrong, just say done, and nothing happen. Thanks for the answer!!

Yep, no problems at all. I jsut uploaded a thing not even a minute ago. I always have to click a popup that asks me if I am willing to run the risk of java, but I can always do it. Part of that is because I have MOCpages on a list where using Java is allowed, so you may need to check. You've been around long enough, I imagine you know how to do that since it has been brought up a million times here, because I am really bad at giving step by step instructions.

I would also consider the solution of using the more forgiving version of Firefox for now. It supports java for a while longer, though probably not past 2018 I seem to recall them saying. I've been enjoying it as it lets me use the better uploader with no issues. Doesn't seem to be missing any firefox features that I notice.

Here's the info on the ESR version of firefox from Java and why it helps.

Here's the direct link to the firefox page where you get this version:

I know I've had to resort to getting a Flickr account and embedding my pictures with HTML from there. Still have to use the old picture uploader for the main picture, which requires compressing it, but it was easier than getting Java to work. At this point one might wonder why I don't just upload on Flickr, but love the format here in MOCpages, so for me it is worth it even if I have to upload pictures in a roundabout way.

Flickr's Embed option no longer gives you a MOCpages friendly HTML format ether, so you have to edit the text slightly for it to work. I am considering making a guide on how to do this. Let me know if that would be useful, as then I will move it higher up on my priority list.
