Sorry for the new topic. So my understanding is that if you're creation gets 3-5 likes in the first few (up to 24) hours that it's posted, it gets on the MOCpages homepage. Correct me if I'm wrong. Because this got 8 in the first 2 hours and it never showed up on the homepage!

I'm not so sure. This has never happened before, and also, I counted several that had LESS activity than mine.
Ok I'll try to explain this simply. Getting on the homepage is about activity on that moc at the time you look. A moc with a sudden spike in views, or likes, or comments will jump on there ahead of mocs that have had lots of likes and lots of views over a long period of time.
The purpose of the homepage is to show you a snap shot of what is happening TODAY, not the most popular mocs of all time.
I have mocs with similar activity to both the ones you posted, neither have been on the front page (to my knowledge). It isn't a big deal. Permalink
The top creations getting views and 'I Like Its' *at that time* get on the homepage.
If your creation is not on the homepage, it means someone else's is getting more views and 'I Like Its' *at that time* than yours.
There is no conspiracy, although people may be fraudulently upping their own 'I Like Its', just simple maths.
Sorry if this came across a little blunt, but this obsession with page views and 'I Like Its' is getting silly.
If you're on the homepage, be happy : ) If you're not, be happy for the people that are.
First off, it is not an obsession, just a wish to be recognized, which I'm sure everyone wants to be. Secondly, I realize that is how the homepage works. That is why I said that I check the other things that where posted roughly around the same time, and mine had more. But the problem seems to have fixed itself. Thank you for the advise anyhow. Ape flight nailed it. the "everyone else" section is most active at the time you look, THAT DAY. So if other people are more active, you drop off.
Moc of the day is more complex, and the admins have tried to explain it, but I'm still not fully sure what determines who gets there. But it's something to do with overall activity versus frequency of that activity, so someone getting thousands of comments in one day stands more chance than someone with thousands over several months.
As for your popularity being tied to being on the home page... you may be right, but I personally very rarely even look on the home page, so I doubt I've added many builders to my favourites based on what is there. I tend to look for the most popular in the subjects I'm interested in, via the search box. That way I see less Bionicle, which saturates the home page some days. Permalink
There seems to be one big popularity contest going on here,
relax people, the rating your creations get or the amount of comments is not relevant, instead focus on the content of the comments you get. Permalink
Quoting Deff .
A long time ago on "Popular This Week" there was a creation that had aftre 4 days about 25 likes. While one of my creations had 32 after 2 days. Mine doesn't got on "Popular This Week".
you aren't getting this are you. The one that got there after 4 days did not have the same "competition" yours did. plus it's how much general activity you have. If dozens of people all comment at the same time your moc looks more active than someone elses, and jumps to the top of the list, but if the comments come in rips and drops over several days then someone else would look more "active".
it isn't based only on the total number of likes.
Besides, as several people have pointed out. obsessing about being popular isn't the most important thing in the world. I'd sooner have a fantastic moc that only three people had genuinely liked than a piece of garbage moc that dozens of my friends had liked just because I was their friend.
concentrate on making better mocs and less on who's viewing them. Permalink
