Advice to Moccers

Let's get this place active!

so here is where people can ask/give advice for moccing. I'll start.

for torsos, use big yet incomplete torso pieces and customize it. Also, as much as hero factory is hated, their torsos are easily customized. You can add armor, make them taller, etc etc.

For arms, just build a sort of skeleton and then add armor.
armor wise, use whatever! ccbs armor, bionicle armor... whatever works! just don't use a lot of system.

When I moc, I start with an idea of what I want. Iíll choose a mask and find coloured pieces that match it. Then I start building the torso by starting from a base piece, and expand outward. After I build limbs. I usually go custom for the upper arms and legs, then just add on to pre existing lower arm and leg pieces.

that's what i do sometimes if i am short on pieces. but yea, I also always start with the mask and torso. I usually do the legs and weapons, then the arms so that they are proportional to the legs.

Iíd love to post a big comment full of super helpful advice... But Iím afraid thatís not really my thing.

How I build my figures often varies. But it always starts with an idea. Whether thatís a specific character, a mask, or even just an interesting piece, It always starts with something. I also normally start by building the torso of the character, as that is often the hardest part. From there Iíll build the limbs, starting with whatever I have an idea for. Then I usually spend a lot more time fine tuning the build, tweaking things here and there, and often reworking large chunks of it, if not the entire build.

The best advice I can give, is to never give up. Youíll hit roadblocks in your builds, but you can always work your way around it. Just never stop trying. If youíre getting frustrated, or are simply out of ideas, take a break. Do something else for a while, and come back to it with a fresh start. I often have to do this myself. Also, never, ever, be afraid to start over. Itís LEGO, itís all about building and rebuilding.

But most importantly, have fun!

I start building with the torso. I generally base it off of a piece. Like with My SM Neox I worked off an empty tire piece. I then develop my moc over months or even years. My mocs will never be 'finished' it is just when I feel like I can put it down for a while.

try to use either really cool yet skinny pieces or make a basic skeleton frame that is really simple...

This isn't exactly related, but what's everyone's favorite part of building a Bio-moc? Mine, personally, is definitely the back. I find a piece I want to use as the main part, and find a way to incorporate it into my torso. It's always fun to try and build in a weapon storage system, too.

Iíd say my favourite part is building the torso, though Iíve kept the same upper torso on my SM since V1 XD

On that note I could use some advice on a new (less edgy) name for my self

Well Erebos, Tartaros, Hades, and Thanatos are all deities from Greek Myth that relate to your current name.

Erebos was the personification of the dark gloominess of Tartaros. Tartaros was the Underworld. Hades was King of the Underworld, and Thanatos was the personification of death.

Mors Umbra is Latin for 'Shadow of Death'.

Do what you want with this.

Hold on a second! Upon double checking my Grammar, Umbra Mortis is actually the Latin for 'Shadow of Death' or 'Death's Shadow'.

Forgive me, I've just started studying Latin. It is much different from English.

To help me remember let me explain.

Mors is the Nominative Case. (That is when the noun does something.)
Mortis is the Genitive (That is similar to our preposition 'of'.)

Umbra is the Nominative.

... And I made another mistake...

It should be Umbram. The Accusative. (When a noun has an action done to them.)

So if I'm right this time it is 'Umbram Mortis'. I'm pretty sure this is right this time. =P Honestly it's a name so It isn't THAT important. Besides if English speakers can say 'paninis' then I think we can speak bad Latin. =P (panini is already the Italian Plural. panino is Singular.)

Thank you for helping me learn how this works!

I thank you as well. One thing though, Umbra in Latin is grammatically feminine, so I'd go with Umbro. While it may not be a real word, this is a person's name and knowing Italian I have a hard time unseeing words that end in 'a' as girls names. xP (Unless they're pronounced as the 'u' in 'up.) xP Words that end in 'o' are grammatically masculine in Italian and sometimes in Latin.

Umbro Mortis is it if you want it. I promise I won't change it any more after this. xP

I think Iím fine with umbra tbh if itís grammatically correct, also my self moc is gender less since heís completely mechanical

(Plus umbro is an English sportswear brand which would be even harder for me personally to un see XD)

Okay sure. Umbrage entered English from Old French, which evolved from Vulgar Latin.

"Umbrage Mortis" it is. Thank you for shopping at Juppiter's Name Shop. xP

Since we are talking about names, The 'j' in 'Juppiter' is pronounced like the 'y' in 'yet' because it's Latin. (I bet y'all were pronouncing it like the 'j' in 'jump' weren't you?) =P

Glatorian. He literally came today. Five. Days. Early. It said it was pre-owned, but he's in great condition. The joints aren't cracked, and the only thing I can see is a little bit of wear on the bottom of the mask. And the best part: I got him for $10.

You could... But I feel like you'd have to remove one of the other three colors in order to keep it from looking really messy. On the other hand, I'm sure you could figure out a way to layer the colors, but that might be hard on the scale you build at.

Thanks for the suggestions! I may remove the silver in and make the colours layer as such, Metru Green, trans neon or flat orange, and black. I guess now it's time to start experimenting!

BTW on my Flickr I added a picture with tan additions a while ago. It's definitely not my best work IMO, but it's my most popular image... so yeah you could chck that out to get a vague idea of what I'm looking to do.
