As this is the first conversation of this group, Ill start by asking, does anyone know the origin of the word 'Tank' when it is used to describe a military vehicle?

The name comes from water tank.

From Wiki :
During construction, to conceal their true identity as weapons, they were designated as water carriers for the Mesopotamian campaign and referred to as "tanks" (as in 'water tank').
