That's difficult to choose...hmm, I'd have to say the new type of headlight brick, that's not inverted. Like this:

Here's a few ideas:

This one uses an old bespin guard torso (from star wars)
https://s-media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com/originals/90/ca/22/90ca221975e6ef790e957b667dce8a91.jpg

Or this: (With a pirate torso)

Alternatively, you could try a brick built one...but that would mess up the scale.

Good luck and can't wait to see how it comes out!

FAVORITE LEGO PIECE? ANYONE?

Very difficult question, but Cheese slopes are a hot candidate! They can be used for almost everything you can imagine. Other favorites are all minifig parts (I love combining new minifigs), the 1x1 bricks that look like a minifig foot with an extra stud and nature bricks (like grass plants etc)

I'm sure there are many other awesome bricks, but these are the ones that came up to my mind. :D

Are you going to choose a yellow or flesh colored face? Because if you choose yellow the boots can easily be confused with normal legs.

As for the feather, you could use a pirate feather. I don't really like the new ones, but I love the old ones. I'm not sure if a blue one exists, but if not you can buy a white one and then maybe add color to it

Haha, funny but true. :D Here in Germany we have serious problems with radical leftists and so called "liberals". And what makes it worse is that they are a majority in the politics and the media, trying to manipulate the people's opinion, although many people feel completely different about the whole issue. And many people are afraid to say anything because of political correctness. Luckily the public opinion is changing though (after happenings like those in Berlin and Cologne)

At the risk of turning this into a big political discussion (apologies, but politics/economics/government are a bit of a hobby of mine and I know nothing about the German democratic system,) how likely is it looking that Merkel will win? I've heard from the few sources that mention it here that she probably will, but considering how they forecasted our election, I don't trust our mainstream media. This is pretty much the only way I can get an insider's viewpoint.

I've heard from the few sources that mention it here that she probably will, but considering how they forecasted our election, I don't trust our mainstream media. This is pretty much the only way I can get an insider's viewpoint.

Last week there was a survey in the news which said that 2/3 of the people in Germany don't want Merkel to win again this year. And the mainstream news are on Merkel's side, so in reality it will probably be even more people who don't want her to win. The only problem is, that all the other possible options are seen as even worse by many people. And Merkel's party (CDU) usually gets the most votes, no matter what. We have another big party (SPD) but they lost much of their popularity during the last years, so that nobody really takes them serious anymore, although SPD and CDU usually fight against each other when it comes to the big elections.

We have, of course, some other smaller parties. The in my opinion worst of them is the Green Party. They always debate emotionally, never rationally. For instance they negate biological differences between men and women or want to let in illegal and unqualified migrants from all over the world and let them stay forever.

Very similar to them is the Left Party, but at least they argue more rationally. I also like their leader, but I think he's in the wrong party. (I think they may get 8-10 %, same with the green party, which lost so much popularity, that they may not even get the 5% this time though)

Then we have FDP, but it really doesn't make sense to vote for them, unless you belong top the richest 10% of our country. They didn't even manage to be in the Bundestag last time, because they got less then 5%, which is the required percentage. (I think they'll get 4-7%)

And last but not least we have AfD. It's a very new conservative party. In my opinion they have many good aspects which they stand for, but the mainstream media hates them, so they won't have it easy, also because they are permanently insulted as "Nazis". Though they will probably be the third largest party, if they are very lucky, they may even get more votes than SPD. (In surveys the usually get 13-15%, sometimes 20)

So all in all, I think that Merkel will probably become chancellor again this year, although in some surveys her opponent from SPD, Martin Schulz, is more popular than her. The mainstream media even says that since Schulz is the SPD candidate, SPD magically gained much popularity, but I don't trust them.

Here are some current surveys:

Wow. It's really striking how similar all of this sounds to our election last year. Your parties and stances, your media coverage and bias, your mudslinging..... You've got more major parties though, which is nice. More choices then what we had.

It's kinda funny though how the media slams far-righters over there as being Nazis just like they did (and continue to do,) to the alt-right/Trump supporters here.

So, does the German government have a Parliament or a Congress? If so, are the members elected through popular vote or are they appointed? Also, how is the Prime Minister chosen? Is it through a popular vote, or do you have an electoral college like the US?

We have a Parliament. For the big election we will have 2 votes (1 for a person of our 299 election districts and 1 for one of the parties (there are more than 50 of them in Germany, but only 6-8 that everyone knows and that will get most of the votes)) The vote for the party is more important than the other one, because it decides on how many seats a party will have in the Bundestag. The the-winner-takes-it-all thing (like in the US) only counts for the delegates, as for the party-vote every singe vote will count, so that the will of the electorate can be enforced, otherwise SPD and CDU would probably have more than 95% of the seats in the Bundestag, thanks to the so called "second vote" they only will have about 55-65%. And since there are so many parties in the Bundestag, it is almost impossible for 1 party to rule, so that the parties which are ok with each other the most will have coalitions.

I don't know what you mean by Prime Minister, is it what you would call Merkel's position? The name for Merkel's position is Kanzler in German, we translate in with chancellor in most cases. The Kanzler will be chosen by electoral college as far as I know.

Ah, all right, I thought the Chancellor position was called Prime Minister. Basically, I guess I mean head of state, not a dictator, but a position similar to the president (head of executive branch, though I don't know if the German government is split into branches like the US government,) or like Britain's Prime Minister. Over here in the US, I think the media uses the two terms interchangeably for Germany (I've heard Merkel referred to as both Chancellor and Prime Minister.) The media doesn't report on much news in Europe, unless it's a tragedy or some big event like Brexit (We heard about that non-stop for at least a week after it happened.)

So in your district votes, does the person there run as a member of one of the parties, or do they run independently? Like over here, each state votes for members of the House of Representatives and the Senate, but the candidates always run as one of the two major parties (there are other ones, but no one ever votes third-party except 3-4%, on a good year.)Are both parliament votes party-driven like that?

Ok, here we just call the head of the state like they want to be called in their specific countries (like president in the US, Prime Minister in the UK, etc.)

Yes, both parliament votes are party-driven. the 2nd vote decides on the percentage of each party in the parliament. they'll just count every vote and then evaluate them. So if there are 80 million people and 8 million vote for a specific party, it'll get 10% in the parliament. The persons in the districts run as members of one of the parties, and if they get elected they will definitely have a seat in the parliament. But sometimes a party gets more people-votes than party-votes. In that case there will be more members in the parliament, because all the other parties will get additional members, too. (how many of them depends on their 2nd vote percentage) That way the percentage of parties will always be the same, even if we get many person votes from one party. Reasons could be that people like what the politician wants for their own region, but don't like the party as a whole for Germany, so they will vote for the person from their district in the first vote and for a completely different party in the 2nd.

It's an absolute blast. The Tolkien-lore-fanatic in you will curl up into a ball though, as it plays fast and loose with the canon.

That's the understatement of the century, LOL. It's an awesome game, but the use of lore (if you can even call it that) is horendious. It's more like a parody of Tolkien's works. If you want a lore-based game for Middle Earth stuff, Lord of the Rings Online is by far the best choice. If you don't care for the lore, the Middle Earth: Shadow games are the best choice. And, as a side note, the Middle Earth: Shadow games have some of the best graphics I've seen. ;)

Oh, for sure, it's fanfiction stuff. Not to mention that the writing even within it's own story is rather bad *Cough* One of the worst endings of all time. *Cough* But they're quite good action games.

The visuals are pretty nice, though I've seen better/much more impressive in other games. :P

I totally agree on LOTRO! It's one of only very few Middle-Earth game in which you'll get a real LOTR feeling. It also feels like a well-fitted expansion of the LOTR "universe" since even less known places as The Lone Lands, Forochel or Evendim get their own plots and an apperance that isn't too over the top for a MMO (unlike WOW,etc).

Well, The Witcher 3, for one (The visuals might not be as strong as they could be, but the fact that it's an almost 100% seamless open world is incredible.) The Crysis games as well, though they've started to show their age. I would also say The Vanishing of Ethan Carter: http://www.theastronauts.com/wordpress/wp-content/uploads/2013/09/TVoEC_ScreenShot_03.jpg

Due to photogammetry. Most AAA games out now, TBH, have stunning visuals (Battlefield 1, COD: Infinite Warfare, etc.)

Here's a few more upcoming and newly released ones that I think look fantastic:

http://www.dsogaming.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/09/01_bmp_jpgcopy.jpg (Resident Evil 7)

http://cdn4.dualshockers.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/10/Approach_1445968650.jpg (Horizon: Zero Dawn)

http://www.dsogaming.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/03/Village_screenshot_with_logo.jpg (Sniper: Ghost Warrior 3)

https://cdn3.vox-cdn.com/uploads/chorus_asset/file/7868549/prey_screenshot_06_1920.jpg (Prey)

SOM still looks fine, it's just age I think that has gotten to it, along with being hobbled by the PS3 and Xbox 360.

The thing with LOTR games is, most of them seem to be completely un-LOTR related, they just add the names in and use the rough guidelines for the lotr world in what appears to be a bid to make more money. It's why I'm more attracted to the world of Skyrim than LOTR games.

It depends on the game. Some of them like Shadow of Mordor or LOTR Conquest are definitely constructed the way you described them. But many of them are still quite close to the books and movies or fit well in the lore, such as LOTRO, The Fellowship of the Ring, The Hobbit and War in the North. The Battle for Middle Earth games also fit well in the lore for a strategy game and in LOTR Return of the King the characters and mobs look closest to the movies.

Well, as Michael and I have said, there are a good number of lore accurate games for Middle Earth. In fact, Lord of the Rings Online (a.k.a. LOTRO) is one of the most lore accurate games you can play.

I did. It looks pretty cool! The firsts game was able to work, but this one is just going on it's own thing. Which is totally fine by me, tho I wish it could be canon cuz talion is SO COOL! The idea is a little stretched now with the war and all that. I would rather just have Talion try and get to Souron and then end up dying or seomthing. Rather than go into full scale invasions with orcs and such. I dunno, I'm exited but torn.

Well, according to the VP of Marketing at Monolith (or something, the guy who gave the presentation, can't remember his title,) they've hired a Tolkien scholar to work with. Here's what he said: "I think the thing we can say is that this absolutely fits within the canon. This is between The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings, and we can actually tell a story that can shine some interesting new light on things that you think you knew. Im not to give anything away, but the Nazgul in particular thats really a fun place for us to focus."

I seriously doubt that it will be canon, because if so it puts so many plotholes into the overarching story it brings it all down. Doubt the Tolkien Estate would sign off on it. Still, I'll be interested to see if they've put some book references in there.

It may be the "worst" from a technical standpoint, but this is much more convincing in my opinion since they used more real locations and movie sets while in the other two movies they've worked too much with CGI in my opinion.

Is it just the violence?

If it helps, it's primarily aliens that you fight, and it's quite a bit less bloody then your average FPS. It's less about combat, overall, and more about using your ingenuity and wits to survive and figure things out (It's brutally tough.) It also rewards thinking outside the box.

There aren't really any disturbing themes or anything in it (that I've seen.) It's not really any worse than something like Alien. Don;t know if that would change their mind, but it's something to consider.

Yeah, but they only really decide to let me get games if the esrb rating isn't bad and to a minor extent what I tell them about it :(

So I have a question for everyone here: Should I read the Unfinished Tale or The Silmarillion first?

The Silmarillion is definitely a good choice that will provide you with a lot of information about the entire history of Middle-Earth. It can get a little long and monotonous because it doesn't have too much of a plot, and is more like a long timeline. However, it's a very interesting read! I haven't read the Unfinished Tale, so I can't really give you a good suggestion. If you haven't read The Children of Hurin, that's another great Middle-Earth book!

I've read both, and I can definitely say the Silmarillion. Unfinished Tales feels more like a gap-filler of certain events in the Silmarillion.

But you might want to do the Children of Hurin first, it's a bit easier to get into.

There are almost 132,000 people here on MOCpages, but some of them are fake and advertising accounts or people who have 2 accounts, so maybe around 120-125,000 people.

The map of the LoM is on the homepage. It is not the same map as the map of Arda. Also much of what exists in LoM is not in LOTR, for example the politics and interspecies relations which have featured prominently in the LoM storyline. There's some clear inspirations but if you looked around the group for a couple of minutes I'm sure you'd realise it was a different thing. :P

Yeah, man, it seems like the older you get the less time you have. I haven't built anything with LEGOs in probably a few months due to lack of time, and the time I use for gaming is like a few hours a week now. Life just got insane when I got a job and started college...

I was homeschooled too! Yeah, homeschooling is awesome for that reason. Once you graduate though...all that free time disappears...kinda like the One Ring in Mount Doom. ;)

Lets revive this site!

Just kidding that's nearly impossible but I figure if I come back every six months and say it... Might end up working one of these times... Right?

Not if you yourself are unwilling to aid the revival.

...I just noted my determined return every six months, did I not?

In reality idk where the emails for replies to my comments go anymore so I don't have something telling me to come back every day/no one usually is around to reply anyways. :P

Ah yes! But are you taking an active part in reviving this? No! Once every six months is not good enough. if you want change you must make it.

I think my sarcasm went over your head. However as I am now taking an active part (or three replies is more than I've received/given in the last I don't know how long) in a conversation I'll say I am doing my part to help. :P

The original joke was indeed that, despite (un)popular belief coming back once every six months won't fix anything. Hence me complaining the place is dead and (falsely) proclaiming how much I do to help it return. :P

Dude, you're awesome! Hey, totally off topic, but do you have any building tips you'd like to share? You could count it as your "contribution."xPXP

Is this a compliment directed towards my builds or my wit? I'll take either. :P

Well this is a general convo so nothing is REALLY off topic... Don't be afraid to step out of your comfort zone. Try something new when you're building stuff. If it looks good, don't be afraid to rip it apart, expand on that, and make it look even better. One of my biggest mistakes (back when I actually built stuff a lot) was never making stuff that was new for me. So yeah, be original. Be innovative. (and if it doesn't work, make it work a different way. It'll probably end up looking better anyhow)

Glad I could contribute more than my bi-annual comment drop. XD
