Nova Airlines was created in 1998, from the merger of Nova Express Service and Maxim Air. It started operations with a Boeing 707, 2 747-200s and a Douglas DC-10. In 1999, the first A330 entered the fleet, In 2001, the fleet was made up of a single A330, an A310, a 747 and two A320s. In 2005, the fleet was renewed, and new levels of service were introduced. The first Boeing 737s and 757 entered the fleet, and in 2008, Nova's new business class service on single-aisle aircraft was introduced. Europe+ was deployed onto the whole 737-800 fleet, after its introduction onto the Paris CDG route in the middle of 2008. By the end of 2008, Nova changed it's long haul A330 cabin, and introduced new economy seats. With the exception of 2 A330 aircrafts (LCs-7893, 7894), every Nova Airlines plane proudly wears a Maxim registration number (MX-000).

Nova is announcing the creation of Nova Europe to operate it's Boeing 737 and Embraer 145 fleets which operate most European flights. This is due to B737 and E145 crews flying more hours, so different pay rates apply. Nova Europe crews are still part of the Nova Airline family, and service will stay the same. However Nova Europe planes will keep the old livery with the new Nova logo. Nova Airlines European flights operated by A321, 757 and A320s will still be operated by Nova Airlines and not Nova Europe.
