Welcome to my MOCpage!
My MOCs are Minifig-scale models for several different themes, times or worlds.

Most of my creations were/are published on my website, too.
If you'd like to write something to me, I'm able to understand and respond in German, English, French and Spanish.
In case anyone wanted to know, I was born in 1983.

Planned Future Enhancements

Some things which I might or might not do with my models on this website:
  • bigger layouts - e.g. a space base layout with several of my space stations and roads
  • MOC boxes - I usually build my models as if they were complete sets, and I think it's interesting to wonder what they might look like in LEGO boxes
  • MOC catalog - same as with the boxes, but for a LEGO MOC catalog
Please let me know in case you'd like to participate in one of the above, e.g. if you happen to have a minifig scale Futuron base as an LDraw model, that might be included in a bigger base model, or if you also like the idea of seeing MOCs in LEGO-like boxes.

Why do I use virtual LEGOŽ instead of physical LEGOŽ?

There are several reasons for my decision:
  • I have always felt that a restricted number of parts is an obstacle to my creativity. My personal enjoyment is based on building models, not on achieving some goal with a restricted number of elements.
  • Physical models are nothing permanent. At least, I do not own enough parts to permanently keep a collection of MOCs and build new ones all the time. Files will remain on the hard disks and backup drives virtually forever (particularly long enough to combine two arbitrary MOCs into one scene).
  • In order to remember how to build a certain physical MOC, I would have to go through the tedious process of creating instructions while disassembling the model. This is different with virtual models: the models are the instructions.
  • I'm not a photographer and I have no interest in becoming one. Even though renderings do not look 100% real, they will certainly look better than any photos I would take of real models.
  • I'm interested in computer graphics, and I tend to combine that interest with others. Therefore, I like the possibility of enhancing the rendered images, or directly the 3D scenes, with special effects, and hope to take advantage of those possibilities with my models in the future.
  • While you can do some things with a real model which are not possible with a virtual one (hold it in your hands etc.), you can also do certain things with a virtual model which you can't do with a real one (hold more than two models in the air at a time without growing additional hands; take pictures from locations unreachable with a real camera, e.g. inside a cockpit), which I consider more important for myself.

Methods And Tools

I edit my models in LDraw. For those interested, this is my current workflow:
  1. Design a model using MLCad.
  2. If no suitable background is existing:
    1. Create a background picture with Inkscape and/or Micrografx Picture Publisher (not available any more :-( )
  3. Write an OMakefile which calls L3P and then POV-Ray once or several times for different views of the model.
  4. In the OMake build script, call ImageMagick to combine the rendered images with the respective background pictures.
