Welcome to the Kingdom of South Mirthan! An island nation to the east of Japan. Home to the industrious Mirthanese people. A land of desert and lucrative resources. A Constitutional Monarchy in which the King and Queen are figureheads, with a Prime Minister and Parliament making the decisions. The federal government is relatively small, with many laws falling on individual provincial governments. But South Mirthan is under constant threat. To the North lies North Mirthan, a corrupt republic that has always stood at odds with the South. The two Mirthans have fought multiple wars in the past, and show no signs of peaceful resolution anytime soon.
Who Are We?: The People of South Mirthan are the descendants of the Mirthanese natives (believed to have Japanese roots) and German colonists. Our official language is German.
Buddhism has been the faith of the Island throughout much of history, and remains the mainstream to this day at 65% with 13% Christianity brought by traders in the 18th to 19th centuries, its present mostly along the Eastern coast. 10% Islam present mostly in the Southern barrier islands and coastal settlements predominant on the Island of Narishce, brought over from indonesian traders in the 16th century. 12% are atheist/agnostic scattered all across the nation.
In the North and in the West, are many people of European descent, although Asian is still the majority, in the western mountains are small minorities of dark skinned people known as Saishona, from the Japanese word for "first". many believe they were the original inhabitants long before Japanese settlers landed at an unknown point in history.
Mirthan was discovered by Nanban traders in 1580. In 1695 German explores arrived, A German mercenary captain was adopted by the local Daimyo and later became Daimyo himself. for much of the 18th century German colonists would arrive. The Kingdom of Mirthan became a state of both Germans and Natives. in the 1800's Mirthans sovereignty was challenged by the french. after years of fighting Mirthan emerged victorious with British assistance. Mirthan fought alongside the British in WW1, and then alongside Japan in ww2. In 1964 The country fell into civil war. with South Mirthan emerging as a new communist state. After a disastrous war with the North, the communist regime crumbled in 1989. Since then, the 2 Mirthans fought several wars against each other. in 1999-2001, 2005-2008 and in 2011.
