A 16-wide cafe built to the Modular House standard
About this creation

This is a cafe designed to the modular house standards - Green Grocer, Cafe Corner, etc. I've got quite a bit of time invested in this creation and I feel it's finally in a presentable state!

An overview of the building.

Nice and imposing from the street view.

Here's the ground floor, the eponymous cafe itself! There's a lot of details of note here. The individual components such as the window, sign, and corners are further detailed on the "Cafe Construction" page.

There's a partially-constructed interior so there's something to see if you look through the window or open the door. More on that below.

This shows the windows a bit better - each protrudes 10 LDU (1/2 plate) from the wall. Every window has "glass" behind it as well, including the bay.

This is the rooftop section. I had some designs for my own furniture up here originally, but anything larger than a 2x2 seat made the whole roof area look very small in comparison, so using the standard minifig seats was a compromise for the sake of the overall structure.

A closeup of the door. Like the windows, the frame is offset from the wall. Behind this door is a stack of black bricks both to block the view of the hollow framework inside and to help stabilize the door frame. It was more difficult here since there wasn't much room to reinforce it.

Here's the back of the building, complete with fire escape!

The main thing I was trying to show here is the grated floor made of grill tiles held by 1x1 clip tiles.

Here's the back door of the apartment with some garbage, a security gate, and a call button for visitors.

The details of the fire escape are nearly impossible to see when it's black, so I've temporarily colored it white to show the construction.

I just thought this was a nice angle.

Here's one more shot of the semi-finished interior. It's just enough that it looks fully fleshed out if you look through the window, but there's no real substance - not unlike (analogy of your choice here)!

A very nice CAD design!! Could I get you to add the "cafe" and it's "Cafe Construction" to the Modular Houses (Cafe Corner) Group?

The only thing I do not like here, are the colors chosen. It feels like it came out of a Film NĂ³ir... film. But, I suspect this will look fantastic next to other, more colorful, buildings. That aside, the facade is fantastic, and the window construction is pure genious. Same with pretty much everything else on it, actually. My favourite detail would be the handrails for the staircase to the roof - I would never, ever have thought of that. :)

What a lovely modular building! The fire escapes are a great feature and the way you've actually constructed them makes them look even greater! All in all, this is a brilliant MOC, worthy of being released as a Factory set...
