Noble Six Hundred!
Cannon to the right of them, cannon to the left of them, cannon in front of them. Volley'd and thunder'd Storm'd at with shot and shell, Boldly they rode and well, Into the jaws of Death, Into the mouth of Hell Rode the Six Hundred.
About this creation

All in the valley of death rode the six hundred. 'Forward the Light Brigade! Charge for the guns,' he said. Into the valley of Death rode the six hundred.

'Forward the Light Brigade!' Was there a man dismay'd? Not tho' the soldier knew Someone had blunder'd: their's not to make reply, their's not to reason why, their's but to do and die.

Flash'd all their sabres bare, flash'd as they turn'd in air sabering the gunners there, charging an army, while all the world wonder'd.

Plunged in the battery-smoke right thro' the line they broke; Cossack and Russian reel'd from the sabre-stroke shatter'd and sunder'd. Then they rode back, but not the six hundred.

Storm'd at with shot and shell, while horse and hero fell, they that had fought so well came thro' the jaws of Death, back from the mouth of Hell, all that was left of them, left of six hundred.

When can their glory fade? O the wild charge they made! Honor the Light Brigade, Noble six hundred!

In a tragic military mistake, the British cavalry sent to recover British guns during the Crimean War from the Russians took a wrong turn in a valley and charged the wrong, heavily defended, guns.

The only man that could have corrected the mistake, was struck by a shell splinter just after yelling "Three's right, three's right!" an order to turn right by rows of three. He was too far away from the Light's commanding officer to hear anything more than an excited yell.

Without knowing which way the British guns lay, the Light proceeded straight into the Russian positions. They charged with great speed and success.

They pushed the Russians back and took the guns, but the Russian cavalry made an appearence and the Light Brigade turned back to avoid entrapment.

Of the original 670 that started out in the charge, 156 perished in the charge. Though they did not accomplish the objective and the British guns remained in the Russian's hands, the charge and bravery of the men has inspired generations of civilians and soldiers alike.
