On a mountain top...
...somewhere in the southern Tirol. Minifig-scale cottage. I think this is a Bed and Breakfast style hotel somewhere in the alps. This MOC is of course inspired by the excellent work of Stapelaar (see his folder on Brickshelf). Physically this is the biggest SINGLE construction I have ever build, in the sense that it is not seperated into several modules. -Only the front terasse comes apart. I hope you like it! I know that I love it! ;-) Additional higher resolution photos added on my Brickshelf folder.

The making of:
The roof floats on top of the building, but it is so heavy and sturdy that it is no problem.
Luckily the toothed hinges gives an angle almost identical to 1 plate thickness fall per stud, whilst keeping the top plates together with around 1/4 mm gap!
The dark red half-stud offset plates where for a traditional build roof (as with Stapelaars original), but even when mixing in black plates I only had enough parts for half the roof, so that was a no-go.
The small cannap roof was/is a problem. It is fragile, and does not fit 100% correct.
The hinges on the chimneys helps keep the chimneys upright.

I found this cottage a very realistic one in comparison to the ones found in the Alps. I am fascinated by the scale of the house. It's amazing, and well detailed.

Very nice work! I stay in a hotel that looks just like this whenever I visit the Swiss Alps.

Goodness, you really caught the alpine look of those hotels and hostels you find in southern Germany, Austria, Switzerland, etc. Very lovely! Steffen

Quoting Jibby Fluff I'd love to see the inside!
Sorry, model has "no" inside. Just structural support and chaos...

Not as good as the original. But the orignal is perfect. Yours is still good. Only thing I do not like is the chimney. The grille parts and the hinge bricks do not fit in.
