The promotion to Jr.Marshal brough Hoffman to the attention of Cosmos Subdirector Field Marhsal Kozhevnikov. Fd.Marshal Kozhevnikov contacted the Jr.Marshal about development of a long range interstellar warship that could be adapted to multiple roles. Kozhevnikov was concerned about the various long range PCS ships, such as the Uranium and LL-X1, and wanted to counter with a ship that would be larger, faster, and more powerful than anything currently in the PCS arsenal. Jr.Marshal Hoffman gladly accepted the challenge.
Naming this new flagship for the Eastern Block also proved a challenge. Submissions included the Zhukov, Red Star, Krushchev, and the Nicolai. Jr.Marshal Hoffman, and Fd.Marshal Kozhevnikov agreed on naming it after famed weapons designed Kalashnikov. Kalashnikov developed the AK-47 and subsequent rifle designs, that proved to be the most popular assault rifle of the twentieth and early twenty-first centuries (After which, Blaster-Laser technology was widely adopted).
The Kalashnikov is designed for several primary functions. It is classified as a Strategic Warship, which means it carries only defence guns, but has an arsenal of strategic high-yield nuclear weapons. It also carries the ability to engage in basic espionage, and is capable of making landings on planetary surfaces. It is not meant for the typical battlefield situation.
The Kalashnikov carries a crew of eight, including three bridge crew, one espionage specialist, two engineers/gunners, one political commissar, and one commander. The Commanding officer is usually the Jr.Marshal himself. All crew members share essential function skills, so loss of a pilot would not be fatal.
The nuclear payload is a total of six missiles, all of which are capable of planetary attacks, moonbase attacks, or enemy starship attacks. It consists of two Red Star missiles, two Karimov missiles, and two Trans-Fusion missiles (Trans-Fusion is the next step in the development of Nuclear Weapons. Instead of combining two hydrogens to form a helium, Trans-Fusion turns three hydrogen into one lithium, with a much higher energy release. These missiles measuring at 8.3 gigatons.).
On it's dorsal side, the Kalashnikov has an electronic cloak (anti-sensor device) and shield generator. It enables the espionage portion of the Kalashnikov's mission, and also allows the ship to move within a closer 'strike range' for strategic missile deployment.
It carries two primary defence gun turrets on either side of the ship, allowing for both dorsal and ventral attack lines. Underneath the bridge is a third, smaller calibre defence turret, which can be used during landings against ground troops or foliage.
The Kalashnikov has two engine systems. It carries adapted Volelov Engines for sublight thrust, and two Ivaad Tunnel Drive (System 5.X.8) nacelles for FTL travel ( Created by Nicolai Ivaad as apart of the Mechanic-Technological Directorate, Scientific Research Subdirectorate, Experimental FTL Travel Program. "System" numeration indicates version and placement within the program.).
It also carries eight Podlektnov Suspensors of 2-80 strength (within a 2g environment, it gives 80% levity). The Podlektnov Suspensors can also provide minimal amounts of thrust if the sublight thrusters are inoperative. All of the propulsion systems utilize electro-magnetic propulsion, thus, with the fusion reactor and solar panels, the Kalashnikov can regenerate its power. This regeneration ability gives it an almost unlimited range.
I can't understand why this project is rated so low. The final result is simply outstanding! The details put in make this a rival of Daniel Jessim's ships! This is an amazing ship, and I'm trying to work on something like it, though maybe not on such a grand scale - Callum
