Mickey's Diner is a St. Paul icon and the best place to get a great burger.
About this creation
I grew up just north of St. Paul and have very fond memories of Mickey's Diner. While in college I worked downtown so I was able to meet my dad at Mickey's for lunch. I now live 2 hours away, but try to stop in for a burger whenever we are in town. It amazes me that it took me so long to add this St. Paul icon to our layout, but here it is!
The pictures honestly don't do it justice, and my photography skills are less than stellar, so I apologize for the poor quality photos. It's such a narrow building that it was very hard to capture all the detail on the interior. That said, you'll just have to stop by and visit us at Brickworld 2009 to see all the great details in person!

Very cool. Now what is it that you use to have text look realistic. you told me it was like watercolor or some thing you used. If you could reply that would be great. keep up the good work
Hi Sean! We use water slide decals for most of our custom signs/images on the layout. You can pick up the water slide kits at most hobby stores (especially if they do model trains). Just create the sign/image/etc in Photoshop (or any other image program), print on the special paper and follow the directions that come with the water slide paper.
Thanks for the compliment on the MOC :)
this is terrific. I like the activity going on inside-- I can hear the cook yelling at the server that an order is up and so on. The little details are what make this so good. Can't wait to see it at BW.
Great looking Mickey's. Like Dave I've got some memories of the place. Back in the late 70's and early 80's I used to go there in the middle of the night with my buddies from the SF club when we had a case of the munchies. That was back in the day when I could stay up all night and eating a greasy breakfast at 3 am didn't bother me. see ya. garth
Another terrific build. Love the custom label work, too...a really nice touch to a beautiful bit of color work on the exterior. I think what I'm impressed with the most is how much detail and activity you managed to work into the interior with just...what...an 8 stud width? I'm really getting stoked now to see what you and Dave have added to the layout this year. This is looking great!

Ahh, Mickey's. The memories...the stolen pickles. ;-) You have really managed to build an iconic piece of St. Paul here. The building techniques and lines are just great. Awesome work.

Stacy, this is fantastic!! I love the design and the colors and your photography DOES do it justice, girlie! :*
M I C... K E Y... You know someone was going to do it. Might as well have been me. You know, after talking to Dave last night, I think I see the perfect place for my addition to your layout right next to this. I mean, even dancers have to eat right? Great little build Stacy and I can't wait to see the whole layout in June! (Insert *snicker* here if you must) ~ Chris.
