Infinite Justice Gundam
Lego model of main mecha from Gundam Seed Destiny. Inspired by the mobile suits of John Draez, Nathanel Titane, and Nicko Caputo.
About this creation
After watching Gundam Seed/Destiny and seeing a number of great Lego Gundams by John Draez, Nathanel Titane, and Nicko Caputo, I was inspired to build my own. I was not sure which mobile suit from the series to make, but somehow (I don't remember since it was so long ago) it narrowed down to Infinite Justice, Strike Freedom, and Legend. Strike Freedom looked too hard with the swivelling hip armour and dragoons, and I had no idea how to build legend's backpack, so Infinite Justice it was. Overall it took me about a year to build it and over $100 in additional Lego pieces off bricklink and eBay which mainly consist of all the dark red bricks.

-Update-

Changed the body, hips, and upper legs. All pics here are new.

Coming in for a landing

Cockpit can accomodate a minifigure, although it is tight in there. If you look closely, you can see the joint sticks.

Weapons

This is how the EEQ8 Grapple Stinger works. The elastic is fit between the hinge and a 1x3 plate, then onto the shield. It can extend a very far.

Josiah, I'm not a person who gets annoyed by questions. If you have a question, I will answer it to the best of my ability. In response to your latest question to me, I will say this. First, I left a longer response than this on the Freedom Gundam Frame. Secondly, which hip joints you use for a mech depend greatly on its size and weight. I've experimented with and used them all. The T-bone joints are great for hardsuits and for micro-scale mecha. I know some people use them on larger ones, but I have my doubts about how well that all works. Ball and socket joints work well on mid-scale mecha, in general. Most larger mechs that I have seen have had to make some modifications to their ball joints to make them stable enough. Finally, we have exo-force joints. They are not the ultimate joint by any stretch of the imagination. Their movement is a bit more limited than a ball joint, and the joint itself is full of odd shapes that make it difficult to work with. However, its stability makes it a good choice for heavier, larger mecha. On a larger mecha you have a lot more room to work with, so you don't really even notice that they are a bit wider then the ball joints, but you might on a medium or small mecha. But not always. For instance, this mech http://www.mocpages.com/moc.php/146985 uses exoforce hips, but is less than half the height of the freedom. But I do not think that the hips look out of place on this. It really depends on the overall look that you are going for with the model. I hope that helps

Quoting mithryl dlarix I think you are the only one who has actually done the Infinite Justice Gundam. Thats something of a distinction. I like how you included all the little features that the IJ has, even the arrestor claw. I think that Phong has a point that its a little wide at the waist though. I don't know if changing that will make it structurally weak, but it would be wild if you could manage it. You mentioned that you are making more mobile suits? Any ones in particular come to mind?
John Draez has one on his brickshelf that I modeled mine after, although this one has a different body, arms, shield, leg joints, and other details, but much credit to him. I have already started putting the gundam on a diet, so he's slimmed down at the waist and upper body. Maybe Destiny or Strike Freedom now that I have some exp, but I think I'll take a short break from Lego since I worked on this for a year.

I say its awsome, the only thing that needs a rework is the head. Look on brickshelf, there are a couple of users that make gundam creations, on has a perfect size Infinite Justice gundam head that I think you would like.

Its good to be back! This looks even better here than on Flickr. I'm anxiously awaiting the Destiny. Can't wait to see how you do it, as that design defeated me utterly.

Quoting Eric Sophie That is a lot of Lego! You have so many nice parts, you used them well!
Thanks! Most of the pieces here were ordered off of bricklink and eBay because my lego collection was not big enough.

Quoting Badachelli . AWESOME! The only 2 problems are 1.the torso is just a TAD bit too short and a TAD bit to thick(mabey its just the angle of the pictures) 2. I agree with others. the flyer doesnt look quite right. just needs some tweaking! OVERALL: 4 1/2 out of 5!!
Thank you very much for your advice.. It might look like the wings are a bit short in the pics but I think that's because he's on a stand.

Quoting Zaft commander Vega gomez Hey all is good execept for the flyer on the back.Don't get me wrong,I do like it,its just that the wings are too short. The coloring is perfect! You pulled it off!You really pulled it off! But why did you say to Mythril that you try to use as little of Exoforce peices as possible?
I don't find exo force pieces useful on my gundams. Only the joints, but even they don't look like ones on mobile suits. On ij I used alot of slopes and wedges, but that's probably not going to continue for future mobile suits. Did u notice the arm joints? It's a new method I came up with that only requires bricks! I might post instructions on that later. As for Mithryl, that's really too bad. Maybe he could email Mr. Kennedy or something.

Quoting mithryl dlarix After having built the Strike Gundam--I can really appreciate the problems of making red gundam feet! They just don't have the right parts for it!
I try to use as little exo-force pieces as much as I can. Just because exo force is mecha doesn't mean it has useful parts. I find even the joints limit the size of the mech but u seem to use them perfectly in you frames.

It's a good mech, but I see that the necesity of making it big cost you the details. Nevertheless, it's a good try. For next time, try to make it less "blocky". LC-

Nice job with the edits. PS: The mecha that you commented on was deleted by me due to people complaining about me posting too many versions, so now the edits are on the other page of the Salvation.

Quoting mithryl dlarix SlimFast Weight Loss Program worked for Infinite Justice Gundam! It lost 30 tons in just one week! hahahahaha! Its looking great man! By the way, for your cockpit door, I noticed that you're having a bit of trouble squeezing the guy in. Do you have any star wars battle droids lying around? Those arms of theirs are amazing for making doors that tuck away nicely. Just a thought. Keep up the great work. By the way--I'm thinking of doing another gundam myself. Any suggestions?
Thanks for the cockpit tip, I'll try it sometime. Maybe you could build strike freedom or wing zero, seeing how you have a lot of white pieces. The rx78 and strike gundam would be the most easiest but still cool.
