Back to the Future DeLorean (2005)
A lego MOC of the Delorean time machine from Back To The Future. This car can also be seen in the third issue of Brickjournal Magazine.
About this creation
"Doc, let me get this straight; you built a time machine out of a Delorean?"

"The way I figure, if you're going to make a time machine, why not do it with some style?"

Of course! Why not? Doc had the right idea back in 1985. This is (obviously) my rendition of the famed Back To The Future Delorean, or as Doc calls it, the Time Displacement Vehicle. Here are the various renditions of the Delorean for those who are impatient (or those who don't have the time, ha ha).

Back To The Future Part III

On to the pics...

In case you didn't know, the Delorean has been featured in Issue three of Brickjournal Magazine. Read the full article
here . The guy in the picture is me.

The Delorean seen here is the result of a lot of caffiene and my one billionth viewing of the famed Back To The Future trilogy. I noticed there had been many admirable attempts around the Lego community, but I wanted to do something new and as accurate to the movie car as possible.

The Delorean features gull-wing doors, detailed interior with a flux capacitor, and a very detailed exterior with every bauble and bolt-on seen in the film. A Delorean without gullwing doors is NOT a Delorean. (Well, okay, maybe it is, but it isn't as cool...)

Here's what the Delorean might have looked like. As a matter of fact, several sketches of the original time machine were made for the movie. Only one of the last designs by Jeff Probst made the final cut. The others appeared too 'futuristic' and were rejected. The Delorean was chosen as the vehicle of choice because it was the most affordable and furturistic-looking car with gull-wing doors. The first idea for the time machine was actually a refrigerator. (Thank god Robert Zemeckis had more sense than that...)

Here's the dasboard.

Take a look inside. I think the classic space control pad works great as the time circuit display console. The new Star Wars control pad below it works good as the keypad where you input the destination.

No time-traveling vehicle should be without a Mr.FusionŽ.

Here's the Delorean in Back To The Future Part I. Note the cable and white liecense plate. In the movie, the plate reads "OUTATIME", but in California, plates are only allowed seven characters.

Here's the Delorean in Back To The Future Part II. In this movie, the Delorean was hoverconverted and Mr. Fusion was added. Mr Fusion is actually a refitted coffee grinder from the eighties called "Mr. Coffee". Because of the popularity of the movies, they fetch a pretty penny on EBAY. By the way, I talked to a few people from the automobile industry and it doesn't look like we'll be seeing flying cars by 2015.

Here's the Delorean in Back To The Future Part III. The train wheels are actually wagon wheels from the Wild West series. I thought that was fitting considering the third movie takes place in the old west. Also note the time circuits strapped to the hood. The were made out of 1955 radio tubes which took up more space than the microchip that used to power the time circuits (though, in reality, the amount of tube circuits it would take to be as efficient as a microchip would have to be the size of a small room).

A little fun with Photoshop...

By the way, this MOC can be viewed on Brickshelf and on the e-magazine, Brickjournal Issue #3.

This rules. It's probably the best one I've seen. Your minifig-scale one isn't quite as cool, but this thing is awesome. You even included the lights on the underside!
