Filling an entire delivery crate was a great success for the MEGAlodus Miners on Baunmaald. The Mining operation continues.
About this creation
After a moderately successful day, the MEGAlodus mining operation on the planet Baunmaald is awaiting its first pick up of the day. A full delivery crate means that the minimum requirement for the day was met, but the Mining Foreman knows very well that with some time left in the day, they can surpass that goal, and when the goals are surpassed over and over again, corporate begins to notice. All of the miners on Baunmaald want that because it means they get rewarded handsomely.
One of the multi-purpose vehicles approaches the mining operation.
The driver starts to extend the mechanical arm to begin the pick up.
As it gets closer to the crate the Mining Foreman helps to get the delivery crate into position.
The claws of the mechanical arm opens to latch onto the delivery crate. It then closes down on the handle of the crate.
The driver throws some levers around on the multi-purpose vehicle and begins to lift the crate.
The Mining Foreman watches the delivery crate intensely to make sure nothing goes wrong. He knows that the crew has worked really hard today, and he doesn't want any mistakes. Once they safely have the delivery crate aboard the multi-purpose vehicle, it is an easy move back to base to get it to the cargo ships for exporting.
The Mining Foreman, and anyone who was watching the crate breathed a sigh of relief as they saw the delivery crate secure atop the multi-purpose vehicle.
Just then, one of the scouts came sprinting from what seemed like out of nowhere.
The Mining Foreman turned and saw him coming. Usually the scouts come together as a group, but he was alone. With a second glance, the Foreman noticed it wasn't just a scout, it was their lead scout Captain Ra.
Captain Ra: Sir *pant* *pant* we...we were...
Mining Foreman: Catch your breath Captain, you seem to have been running for some time.
After Captain Ra had caught his breath, he began to explain his urgency in getting to the mining operation.
Captain Ra: Sir, about 10 hours ago, our squad was ambushed while we were scouting the mountainous areas around the mining site. A group of Kharakian Raiders found us scouting the area and decided to engage us in combat. We had no quarrel with them, but they knew that MEGAlodus meant money. Unfortunately for them, they did not know we had military training, which is why they attacked us. If we had been simple miners armed with handguns, we may have lost more than we did.
Mining Foreman: Wait, how many did you lose?
Captain Ra: Two men, but we were outnumbered two to one. We took half of that group out before they fled, but that doesn't mean they aren't going to try again. They know where this operation is taking place because they told us we would all die if we didn't tell them where we were going to move the rubies to after every days operation. We told them to leave us be, and you know how it ended after that.
Mining Foreman: I have no doubt we are in a serious amount of danger being here, but we have a job to do. We have to evacuate all of the miners and heavy equipment. We can then lure them here and take out more raiders to scare them away for at least a month or two.
With that information, the Mining Foreman knew he had to evacuate the miners and his equipment, which meant their operation for the day was over. Hopefully after this skirmish, the mining will be without trouble, and extremely efficient.
Mining Foreman: Attention all miners and operators, we are in grave danger from an imminent attack from Kharakian raiders. We need to get all equipment out of the area as quickly as possible.
Nobody obeys orders better than the men under the command of the Mining Foreman. The heavy miners began to move out at once.
The multi-purpose driver flipped the vehicle into high gear and began to speed away. If they lost a ruby or two on a bump on the surface of the planet, it was better to lose a few, than all of them.
The AHM-626 slowly hovered nearby the two heavy miners. The AHM pilot was careful to drive slowly because the heavy mining equipment for the individual miners was heavy, even with the mechanized jumpsuits they wore.
So the heavy miners boarded the AHM-626 and were beginning to depart.
Mining Foreman: Okay, now that the evacuation order has been given, you and I need to talk strategy on the upcoming confrontation. We both know they are going to try and raid this place because we weren't able to harvest all the rubies today, and we still have some lying out in the open.
Captain Ra: Listen Foreman, although I am willing to take you orders, I do not think it is wise to have you here with us. Your job is to keep the miners safe, not the scouts. I understand we are a team here, but I am not willing to risk your life over a few rubies. We can hold them off without you. If you were to die here, the planetary operation would be in shambles because there aren't any other miners who qualify to take your place, not to mention the fact that it would take a week before they could get a new Foreman here, and all of the benefits you and your group are working for would be lost. Do you really want that?
Mining Foreman: *Sigh* I can see you are right Captain, I knew we made the right choice selecting you for our operation. We will be back in the morning to resume operations. Contact me when the conflict is over. Good luck Captain.
With that, the Mining Foreman left the operation.
Mining Foreman: AHM-626, this is the Foreman, requesting pick up before you leave.
AHM Pilot: Engines set to idle, we are waiting Foreman.
So the Mining Foreman boarded the AHM and they began to leave the mining site. In the back of the Foreman's mind lingered the eerie feeling of failure. What if Captain Ra could not hold back the Kharakian Raiders? What if he left the scouts to die there and the operation had to be aborted?
Heavy Miner: Foreman, I can tell you are worrying about Captain Ra. You need to know that we are going to be back here to finish this operation because Ra is one of the best Captains MEGAlodus has, and we are very fortunate to have him on this planet. I still can't believe we were able to pick him when there were at least four other planets ahead of us.
