Stanislaw Skalski saves German pilots - 1 IX 1939
On 1st September 1939 Stanisław Skalski fights in the air with German planes since morning on his PZL P.11c.
About this creation
On 1st September 1939 Stanisław Skalski fights in the air with German planes since morning on his PZL P.11c.
In the afternoon near Toruń, together with two other pilots, he attacks a reconnaissance Henschla Hs-126. Finally the plane was shot down by Marian Pisarek - it goes down and tries to land on a field. During this maneuver Henschel overturns, loses the engine and the crew falls out of the cockpit.
Skalski decides to land and search the wreck for maps.
He finds the observer in very bad condition, with several back shot wounds. He bandages him and prevents a possible lynch from the local villagers.
Next he searches for the pilot and finds him in the nearby bushes. He doesn't have any weapon so he uses a cigarette lighter to detain the stunned German.
Later Skalski waits with the pilots for an ambulance. Pilot Friedrich Wimmer and, first of all, observer Siegfried von Heymann may owe their lives to Skalski.
The diorama shows the downed Henschel, the "eleven", a field, a wood, in which Skalski detains the pilot, and the wounded observer with group of villagers. Part of them wants to bring the aggressor to justice.

Thanks for the comments : o)
@Kriss Olympis: This generally is a real story. At least Skalski describes it like that in his book "Black crosses over Poland". For sure there were two downed pilots in a Hs-126 and Skalski landed near them, and for sure they survived the war. In 1990, being in Germany, Skalski met Wimmer - the pilot (von Heymann died in 1988). @Legorevolution: I tried to use both colors of figs together several MOCs ago and I found it ok - it gives a variety of skin colors and faces. Also it was great in my Pacific Rescue diorama as I could use flesh for Americans and yellow for Japanese figs. |

I need to watch Herman Wouk's The Winds of War soon. You can have enough of Robert Mitchum.

Overall it's an excellent moc, though I'm not really sure of your intention of featuring both flesh and yellow figs? One thing I particularly picked out and liked (which I have not previously seen) are the trees in the background with the angled clip branches. Also your presentation of it was very professional. Keep up the excellent work. |

This is great! You have once again managed to pack so much detail into a small place. The landscape, minifigs, and planes are excellent! I just want to know if this is base on a true story (or a fictisous book) or if this was of the top of your head? Either way its brilliant! |
