This is a Gripper I built in LEGO Digital Designer. The most of the ideas are my own, and some are ideas I have seen on
About this creation
This Gripper uses a single worm gear to drive two z24 gears.

The shock absorbers keep pressure on the "fingers" while the gripper holds objects.

Using a pair of the rubber 2L parts at the tips of the "fingers" provides a good grip.

A clutch gear is used with this set up. This keeps the gripper from over rotating.

This gripper was added to some of the Chassis Prototypes I have been making.

Chassis with differential gears and gripper - RCX Version.

Chassis with differential gears and gripper - NXT Version.

The gripper works really well at the end of the RSRA-2008 Robo Arm.

Here is a shot of the programming done by Storming-Robots(.com).

a variation you might like to try messing around with is atatching the worm gear axle to the touch sensor as well as the motor keeping the claw compact and adding an extra sense. something for everyone to note is that i made a 4 fingered variant quite easily, sometimes 2 fingers doesnt quite meet your needs. my one problem is that the fingers arent quite sinchronised, meaning that for precision models you may have to compensate. i apologise for any ridiculous typos...

Excellent design for a gripper. It's well though of, and appears to be good for a really tight grip on parts. I suspect that with a robot arm with enough axis and movement freedom, it would technicly be possible to add this to a robot capable of building Lego bricks.

That's an awesome design! It would look great as a mech's weapon or hand.
