Went to the museum last week and saw some WWII transport ship landing displays so i started right away on this. There were various disigns and they carried a wide array of supplys to the allies on the beach. One interesting fact I always wandered about was how they got back off the beach. Well they had a huge piston in the front that extended and pushed the ship back out off the beach. This is the biggest thing I have constructed so please rate and leave comments.
About this creation
Here's a better view of the bridge. There is stairs on one side leading up and stairs inside going to the engine compartment. It has a total of three floors and crew bunks on the first floor.
It has two small boats with outboard motors and hoists to lower and raise them. I also tried to create the trailing effect behind the ship from its propeller.
Another view of the stern area. I like the curves of the funnel once again LDD needs better colors. The curvature of the stern was hard to replicate with the wing pieces but it came together nicely.
I constructed a older deuce and a half for transporting the troops along with fuel barrels. Also the ships bow area are seen here with its loading area and its twin .50 cal machine guns to help clear out the beach landing site.
The crane arms were a pain to get them just right. Aside from the colors it came out ok also here you can see the lower hatch to the crew bunks and engine compartment.
