This is the moonbase compatable V-57 Magnum built by Volesky Aerospace. While not the most manuverable fighter, it is cheap to produce and ideally suited for moonbase defense. For these reasons it is widely used by colonial defense militias and well-funded police forces. It carries two medium lasers and a rocket pod.
About this creation
I came up with the idea for the cockpit on this thing a while ago after seeing this picture on CSF. For some reason my mind immediately latched on to the idea of a single dome like that, and quickly put it next to a moonbase connection. I first experimented with the idea and the general shape I wanted in a prototype ship that was clearly too blocky to pursue. Eventually I got reinspired to use the cockpit layout on a smaller scale.
Looking at it now I think the cockpit sticks out too much, but that can be simple enough to fix. I am planning several civilian MOCs based on the Magnum (hopefully at least one for Adrian's contest).
One of my favorite parts was the greebling in here. I needed some way to transition the stripes from brick height to tile width, so I just put a hole in the ship. This shot is kinda dark and doesn't show all the detail.
It has a very interesting design. Although I'm not happy with the colors and some of the designs of it, it's very interesting to think about. Nice job! Can you please tell me how you cut out the ship and pasted it onto the background? I have Photoshop CS2 right now and I really wanna know how you did it!
