Lego Trebuchet
This Lego trebuchet was the basis of my science fair project. It's huge, powerful, and fun to use.
About this creation
This is my largest Lego creation ever, my Lego trebuchet. At about 18" long and 13" tall ground-to-axis, this thing is pretty big. It is also completely functional, firing small objects like pebbles and lego bricks a distance of up to 40 feet. The arm swing pretty fast, so I put in a safety firing mechanism, which is triggered by pulling a pin attached to a long piece of string. The counterweight weighs in at about 3 pounds (any more would break the already strong frame after repeated firing), and is filled to the brim with just nickels, the heaviest coin for their size. The model is very sturdy, but not extremely consistent in its throws, ranging from 20 to 40 feet. As such, the results of the science fair testing on the length of the sling vs. the distance objects were thrown was inconclusive. Despite that, I think this is a really great machine. Please rate and comment!
