I was pretty happy to get Vehicles and after many hours and close to completion I found I had absolutely no love for what I'd been building, it was just bleh... My Nephew came over yesterday and while messing around with Lego with him I decided to start fresh and try to build a Sky Hawk; he totally agreed that'd be awesome. I maxed out my green collection and after some unorthodox (for me) part usage, I was finished with my first ever G.I. Joe vehicle! This is only the second time I've built a MOC of a 'real world' design and trying to emulate something is tough but forces creativity.
Just a note to any of you really big G.I. Joe fans, this is actually designed after a fairly newly released Ghost H.A.W.K toy, the differences are slight and might be noticeable but I still wanted to call it a Sky Hawk for old times sake.
Sorry for the wonky photography, I was having major issues fixing the white balance and was never quite able to fix it and ended up adding a bit too much saturation as well.. bah.
Here's a pic that's a little less sea sick.
Thanks for looking! Best of luck to you Topsy Cret!
Not knowing what this is supposed to look like, I google imaged it and this bears a good likeness to what I found! I know what you mean about building from a "real world" design. Despite years of building with LEGO, it's only been recently that I've started doing MOCs based on "real world" designs and they are challenging, but ultimately very rewarding. Great build and Good luck!
Sweet! I was actually thinking of doing a MOC based in the Sky Hawk. Now I have this example to inspire me. This is very true to the original design as I recall. I love the cockpit controls and the way the canopy opens. The authentic color scheme is great too. Nice decals and unconventional articulation methods as well.
