Round 2! I'm in Round 2! Group 1F! Popular Fiction! And I'm up against.... Stacy Sterling?.... a Lego Ambassador?!
The chances of surviving a round against a Lego Ambassador are approximately seven-thousand and twenty... to one....
What do I have to say to that? NEVER TELL ME THE ODDS! I did my best and hopefully I can withstand Stacy's onslaught. BRING IT!
Now that THAT'S out of the way...
This category is popular fiction. The possibilities for this are ENDLESS. I've seen a Starcraft entry, Star Wars and more, and what does my mother point me to?
Yep, books. But what kind of book, you ask? Harry Potter was my first thought, but I decided to go with a lesser-known but good-enough-to-become-a-movie book: Inkheart.
Before you leap into this depiction of a climactic scene: CAUTION!! SPOILERS!! Anyone who wants to read but hasn't read Inkheart yet, BEWARE! This scene is exceptionally... revealing. No, not in that sense, Phipson... *facepalm*
Behold! The climactic scene towards the end of Inkheart! After Capricorn forces Meggie to read and therefore conjure up his evil henchman, the Shadow, she begins to read what the author, Fenoglio, wrote in as an alternate ending: the Shadow turning on his master, killing him and itself. However, Meggie can't bring herself to read it! Can her father, Mo, get to her and read it himself? Or will Capricorn's mother, Mortola (aka the Magpie) reach her first?!
Front view. The Shadow (the big bad dude) is about to attack Capricorn (the man in the large, black chair). To Capricorn's right is Fenoglio, watching his plan to get rid of Capricorn unfold.
Meggie (the girl in white) attempts to read the newly-made passage. To her left, Darius (a man who also can read things out of books, but stutters) watches. Behind her, Mortola has caught on to the fact that the passage she is reading is different, and attempts to apprehend her.
Farid, a boy accidentally read out of Arabian Nights, aids Mo in rescuing Meggie. He points his shotgun at the crowd, making sure they don't move.
Mo (or Mortimer) rushes to the makeshift rostrum, attempting to help Meggie.
This cage houses Basta, a former henchman of Capricorn, Meggie's aunt Elinor, and Meggie's mother, Resa. Only Elinor and Resa know what Fenoglio's plan, Basta is just moping because he's going to be executed later... :(
Terrified crowd is terrified!
-End of entry-
Well, there's my round 2 entry. This is more or less a second go at it; I took pictures for the first, then noticed things that could be improved upon or added. Here is the result!
The Shadow was the most frustrating part of the build: unstable, weak in the neck and waist, UGH!
The stadium light was an add-on from my rough draft, as it were. I had fun distancing the lights 1.5 studs from each other, then the rows 1.5 studs. From the look of it, 1 stud was too close and 2 studs were too far :D
The bench was mentioned in the book more than once, so I got to work on it. It, like the stadium light, was an add-on after the rough draft.
Here's hoping I make it to Round 3! Judges, have at thee!
This is a solid entry! It was obvious that Stacy wasn't prepared to go down without a fight, and you gave her a great one! Excellent job all around! Sorry to hear about your loss, but now you can chill with the rest of us on the "bench" ;)
Nice work!! I LOVE LOVE LOVE Inkheart (and her other books). Excellent choice for your MOC, and I think you picked an excellent scene too. I really like the cage you built and how you managed to get even the small details incorporated in the MOC.
