Homage to Orwell
A small Lego vignette on surveillance and modern society.
About this creation
I found a couple of odd Town parts in my Classic Space collection so thought I would put them to use in my first Lego vignette.

I call this 'Homage to Orwell' but I'm still trying to come up with something even more profound and artsy (LOL). I have a small 2x1 flat with 'POLICE' on it, which I thought I might use to change the sign and call the vignette 'Thought Police' - but I kinda like how the arrow is a distraction, almost diverting attention from the camera as if to say 'look over there, nothing to see here' adding to the sinister big-brother theme...

As a great Orwell fan, I had to review this MOC, which I love for its simplicity and effectiveness. I certainly agree with Josh Wedin in that the clear head (just think of how having a blunt, inscrutable expression on your face, showing no happiness, grief or malcontent is a safe way to remain alive and away from the Thought Police) gets your point accross very well... Anyway, to all out there, Orwell is a must-read, probably even more so for the English and the Spanish: he's got a superb novel called 'Homage to Catalonia', where he retells his experiences in the Spanish Revolution of late 1936-early 1937 (some say it lasted for barely 3 months, but it had certainy died out within 6-7 months, and by the end of the first half of 1937 it had actually been thrust BACK).

It is quite curious to see how presumably anticapitalist pro-USSR communist organisation leaders, under strict orders of the one-man Russian Communist Party, were spreading news that the Spanish revolutionaries, anti-fascist communist dissidents or anarchists of all shades that had loosely begun a revolution after a not-totally monolithic fascist-extreme right wing-ultracatholic military coup against the Popular Front government, were actually social-fascists betraying the true communist approach by fighting the war and making the revolution simultaneously... this led to counter-revolution inside the Republic, as anyone might predict, and, yes, the very 'revolutionary' 'orthodox' Stalinist-communists were at its head. Oh well, enough of politics, Orwell gives more than most people nowadays would bear. Anyway (and this is the last I write, I promise...) when I was in China, I met this English guy in Kunming (Yunnan province) and we actually got on quite well... there was a point in our conversation when Orwell came out (I asked him if he knew about him and his literary works/ political experience) and I was extremely surprised to learn that he had heard nothing of him. FREEDOM!
