As from October 15th 2009 a new exhibition on Whales and Dolphins is open to the public at the Brussels Science Museum. I was invited to build the Exhibition Poster in LEGO. The result measures about 2m40 x 1m30.
About this creation
This is what the original poster looks like.
The mosaic consists of 24 base plates (48 x 48 nops) - they are in the little carriage. First thing to do: mount the wooden board to the wall. We were lucky to find Peter and his colleagues from the museum to help us out. My own tools did not quite do the job :-)
The edges of the mosaic are glued. The pieces in the middle are not - but don't tell anyone. The base plates are taped to the wooden board, and then here and there secured with screws.
I had the kind assistance of my nephew Kevin to do the mounting. Here he inspects the result.
Love seeing mosaics done in this scale (a rare thing, of course!). I'm particularly fond of the water's surface. It reads as water, and yet has a definite abstract quality, which is fun. Beautiful work!
