The StarTalon Fighter/Walker, an alternate model for set 6208 B-Wing Fighter. Built for the FBTB contest. May the best vehicle win!
About this creation

Built by talented aerospace engineers working for the New Republic, the StarTalon Fighter-Walker is one of the most advanced and versatile vehicles currently in existence. It is extremely useful for ground battle situations because it can both fly and walk, thus making walkers that must be carried by a transport vehicle outdated. Here it is in fighter mode.

And of course, here it is in walker mode. This is the first set-alternate that I've ever tried to make. It was hard to bring myself to tear up by B-Wing, one of my favorite sets in years, but I did it.

It was actually rather fun working with a limited part selection for once. At first I didn't think the legs were going to be sturdy at all, but they actually are. It can even stand in a variety of poses.

The belly. I thought the grille plates made great "air intakes" so I was determined to use them as such, even if it meant leaving a few gaps around the edges. As you can see, the main part of the ship just rotates up through the belly, like so...

Of course, this is hard to accomplish if you think of this as a real vehicle, but I thought of that too. Here's my excuse: the body leans back, using its powerful engines to lift off the ground.

The red slit on the back is the "powerful engine" by the way.

Here it is again. I love slit-shaped engines. The engines on the end of each "claw" are actually used mostly for maneuvering.

Here's what it looks like just after takeoff, when the legs are rotating up.

Fighter mode, coming at you. Armed with four powerful laser cannons and two smaller cannons on the front, the agile StarTalon is a great anti-fighter fighter. Unfortunately it has no missiles.

As usual, this is never the best position from which to view a starfighter.

From the side. The middle piece actually looks a little like a shark, so I thought about calling it something like StarShark or something. But nah, Talon sounds cooler.

You can position the wings into some odd poses. Here's one now. I can imagine the fighters hanging like this in racks on the cieling of a hanger.

Another bizarre position. I was just playing around. I thought about saying it could skim along the water like this, but that might be taking the versatility a bit too far.

The rear again. I tried to make this fighter/walker as unique as possible. It's amazing what people can come up with using only a single set, isn't it? (and no, I'm not just talking about my own creation)

Folded up. Another possible landing position. It looks like a dead spider if you fold up the legs like this in walker mode and turn it over.

NOTE: THE PILOT'S HEAD AND HELMET ARE THE ONLY PARTS USED THAT WERE NOT INCLUDED IN THE ORIGINAL B-WING SET. PLEASE DISREGARD THEM. Sorry about that; I couldn't find the original minifig. Oh well. I prefer this one anyway, being a supporter of yellow skin. Yellow all the way!

Walker mode again. Intimidating, isn't it? From a minifig point of view anyway.

Yes, it can stand on just three legs! This is useful if it wants to fire its main laser cannons while in walker mode.

Aiming at you. In order for the "head" to stay put in walker mode instead of sagging down, an additional support plate has to be added under the bottom. But it's easily removable.

The air intakes. The yellow cones around the edges are micro-thrusters used for ensuring a soft landing and for helping the vehicle take off again.

Splayed out. Maybe it got stepped on by an AT-AT or something.

My little preview pic for the forums. I got something like seventh place in the really tough Voidfighter contest (if you calculate it that way), and I barely managed to make second place in the less competitive comics contest, so here's hoping I do better in this one!

This has always been one of my favorite ships of all times ... i first saw this about a year ago at http://www.saber-scorpion.com/lego/sw_startalon.php ... the thing i like about this fighter the most is how it transforms into a walker, but with a pilot controlling it ... (reminds me think of Robotech) ... anyways, i'm glad to see you have a place here at mocpages ... your stuff is AWESOME dude ! |

WOW! that's sweet! i'm also a fan of the models on your website. but this is awesome.
(on an unrelated note, on the webpage about your lego banshee, the flaps at the rear DO move in game, its just when your doing aerial stunts. idk if its a halo 2 thing or what, but your model is accurate lol)
great building! |

Excellent! just when you think the B-Wing (or at least it's pieces) can't get any cooler something like this comes along and all you can think is: Wow...
An Amazing fighter (especially for just pieces from one set) And like the guy below me said Please post instructions. I mean i can understand if you can't due to the fact it would take almost taking apart/rebuilding the full thing but if possible please try. And watch my page. Xarkon stuff coming soon. Oh and ive been meaning to ask this But would it be Okay if i posted my paint-made xarkon decals on my page? just thought i'd ask the creator first... |

How do you do it Scorp? THis is very original and has a definite cool factor. It should definitly win the contest. Maybe the dead-spider look could be regular flight mode and the cannons flip out for battle mode. Anyways, good work. P.S. Xarkon stuff from my neck o' the woods is coming soon! |

Dang Scorp, you never cease to impress me. I can't really find any flaws with it, especialy considering the challenges associated with building that type of MOC. |

Cool! The idea of a fighter and walker in one is is a very, very, GOOD one! Though he has something of the 'Episode I' and 'Episode III' droid starfighter to me... Bu still a nice design, only Justin Stebbins could come up with this design... |

Wow. Some of the colors are odd. The tips of the wings could use some revising, but hey, this thing is pretty cool. Change the colors and make it a Grimm fighter. Seriously. |

For an alternate model, it's got an impressive playability. The design is very good too, and you achieved the symmetry on the four legs, which is definitely a plus. If I had to find a flaw, I'd say that there are some parts that you could have refined better...but it still gets the Phive Smilies. Good luck for the contest (yeah, how original...) |

Hi Scorp, it's me, David. Well, I think you did a very good job for such a limited peice selection for the B-wing. I love the playibility of it all, and how good it looks overall. You could've done better, but I'll just leave it at that. Oh, and BTW, I'm taking an absence from SSLF until further notice. |

I like this. Great job on all of the modes, and I like how you used the actual stickers - most of the other entries were stickerless. The only problem I have is the bottom, because it doesn't look too clean. I'm not sure but it looks like there are holes on the front and back sides. I would clean that up a little bit, find the pilot helmet and head, and submit it! (well, okay, you already have... ;)) |

Hot Damn Dude!! That is sweet! Best use of parts yet in this contest. Both walker mode and fighter mode are pretty tight designs in and of themselves. Even better that they're the same vehicle. Nice. |
