Alien Alley
Alien Alley, a street scene used in the Space Police animated series.
About this creation

The Alien Alley is a street scene from the Space Police series that I worked on for Taking it's cues from films like "Blade Runner," you can find all manner of alien riff-raff skulking around this alleyway at night.

This MOC -- or at least some part of it -- appears in every one of the first five Space Police episodes.

It's made up of four separate sections, and was designed to break apart so that it could be used where needed to fill in the background of the LEGO Space world.

The main scene it was designed for was the scene in Log 01 where Squidman (aka P-Squiddy) tags a wall and gets chased off by the Space Police.

The sketch model below shows that most of the ideas for the overall look of the alley were in there from the very beginning -- lots of grills, ducts, cables, and tubes. I like the idea of a future where everything that powers the city is exposed; kind of like how there are always ducts overhead in Terry Gilliam's "Brazil".

While there is some inspiration drawn from castle-style architecture, that one building on the end got taken out for being too overtly castle-like. This sketch model is what developed into the main module of the Alien Alley:

The second module of the alley was designed to be the opposite side of the street. I was never as happy with it as I was with the first module, so it doesn't show up quite as much as a prominent background element. I do like the Octan building, though - more shameless LEGO fandom.

The third module was a kind of strange structure. I'm not really sure what it is or what it does, but I kind of imagined it as the exit of the domed city that led out into the lunar landscape. The Max Headroom sign is yet another cyberpunk shout-out.

Tying the whole alley together is this nice bit of lightpost/bridge/signage, which connects the buildings on both sides of the street.

This was definitely the set that got the most use out of any of the MOCs built for Space Police. I haven't taken it apart yet... who knows what else it might show up in?

All the random stores and bit of a run down look give it a good look. Nice job.
