The Mauser 98 was introduced into Germany in 1898 with a 29 1/2 in. barrel. it was later shortened to the Karabiner Kurtz(23 1/2 in). The rifle fires 7.92 x 57 mm cartriges at 2300 fps. the max ranges is close to the mile mark, and kills have been recorded at more than a mile with the long rifle. Considered the father of all modern rifles, more than 95% of all modern bolt designs are based on the Mausers. The incredible safety, reliability, and accuracy have made this one of the most famous, popular rifles of all time.
