A fully functioning Remote controlled Lego Technic 8289 Fire Truck
About this creation
My Family had bought this for me for my Birthday. It took me about an hour or so to build the factory model. After that it sat around for a while. I tore it all down to store it. After my 8421 mobile crane project, I decided to tackle this by adding the power functions and IR receivers. This truck was a challenge, as there is minimal space to work with. I had to add a differential for movement. The biggest challenge were the retractable stabilizers believe it or not. So we have 1 remote (soon to be 3) 3 IR receivers, 1 Battery Box, 5 m-motors, and lights. Weight is roughly 3-4 lbs.
Here is the rear of the rig.
Here is the right side of the truck, showing 2 m-motors, and the painstaking gear work.
This picture shows the driver/passenger compartment and battery box placement.
This is the left side showing 1 m-motor and again the painstaking gear work for boom and 360° rotation.
A top view of rear end, this pretty much looks stock, except the 2 IR recievers behind the cab. I filled the roof in with beams for a more solid look, plus to hide the battery.
A view with boom extended and rotated, plus the stabilizers extended.
A good shot with the boom extended of all three recievers and 1 m-motor.
Here is the money shot, very compacted, and view of m-motor, the differential and all the painstaking gear work.
