Shrike space fighter/bomber
A space fighter/bomber that can carry a variety of payloads.
About this creation
The Shrike is a fast attack fighter/bomber that is very maneuverable for its size, making it perfect for hit-and-run operations. While not as agile as smaller interceptor-type fighters, it is quite fast and well armed and armored.

My wife thought I should call it the Burnt Muffin, but I didn't feel that had the proper air of intimidation and lethality for a combat craft.

The LDraw file is now available on Brickshelf here. There are a few parts I used not yet made into LDraw parts, so if you look at the comments you'll see where I made a substitution and what the actual part should be.

This is a "Black Widow" anti-capital ship missile and the rack used to mount it onto the Shrike.

Here is a Shrike next to a Republic Gunship, for scale only. Shrikes are not designed for atmospheric combat.

This photo was taken from the black box of the destroyer Argrazel after its wreckage was discovered. Argrazel was attacked by several Shrikes, armed with Black Widow missiles (top), heavy particle cannons (middle), and EMP bombs (bottom, not visible).

An interior shot of the Shrike's cockpit. Only pilots who have proven their skills in battle are selected to fly Shrikes. They tend to be a cocky bunch, for good reason.

Here are the main engines and maneuvering engines on either side, which generate nearly the same thrust. The rear facing flak and chaff dispensers are visible also.

The forward dishes are the sensor and comm arrays. To the rear are EMP bomb launchers, which can quickly reduce energy shield strength and play havoc with unprotected ships. Facing aft from the bomb launchers are flak and chaff dispensers, to defend against seeker missiles.

A front angle. The missile racks can be jettisoned after launching the Black Widows.

   A right angle.

The main engines can pivot independently, which lets the Shrike roll and pitch very rapidly for its size. The angled maneuvering engines are fixed, but allow yaws.

The Shrike can land vertically, but is generally launched from and retrieved onto a rack.

A Shrike is battling a mysterious furry space creature, codenamed "MOONSHADOW".

Great moc, looks like just the right tool that is needed for taking down capital ships, or giant sleeping space cats if they happen to get in the way. :)
