Rockwell, B1, Bomber, Jet, aircraft, Airplane, Boeing
About this creation
Again, like my Iberian aircraft, this model was made a year or two ago before my building techiques improved however it has remained one of my favourite aircraft.
After seeing it for the 1st time at an airshow (RIAT 03) I wanted my own lego B1.
Considering most of my lego is white, I thought I would build the B1A (B1 prototype...I think) which was also white......however didnt include the spanish colours on the tail!!
One of the challenges about this model was to create the moveable wings whilst making the joints as flat as possible. Eventually after a good while I settles on an idea. Hopefully you can see it somewhere in one of the photos because I cant be bothered explaining it.......it was a while ago so I can only remember the basics.
I remember that for each wing I used a flat 2 x 2 turntable and blue tac between some parts to make the wings stiffer at the joint meaning they wouldnt move around when the aircraft was lifted. In the end, the wings were too stiff at the joint.
The model also has bomb bay doors, even though there isnt a bomb bay in the actual model.hehe
THe horizontal tail stabilisers also moved up and down which creates the up - down movement of aircraft in flight.
This a really enjoyable aircraft to make, especially trying to make the 'bone' shape with lego pieces. Having alot of sloped pieces does help alot if attempting to build the B1!!
Im sure with one or two modifications it would also look like the russian version of the B1 bomber.....the Tupolev 144.....Im not sure if thats the name of the aircraft...correct me if im wrong. Im not looking...just from memory so its most like the wrong name.
One wing forward, one wing, back, hopefully you can make out the mechanism. I must remind you that each wing worked seperately...if you moved one wing, the other wing would remain in the same position...they were not connected in any way.
I wish I could do stuff like this... Great Job!~Jack P.S. The Russian equivalent (did I spell that right?) is the Tupolev Tu-160 Blackjack,
and the reason the B-1 isnt white anymore is because the Army has this black stealth paint that they paint them with.
You nailed it with this one. My dad is in the air force and he flies f-15s, so when he took me to the base one time i saw like four of these come in to land. this looks exactly right, other than the tail, which should be a little farther back. And to the guy below me, the B1B caN ALSO GO SUPER SONIC!!!THATS WHY THEY PUT IT INTO SERVICE!!!they didnt have any other supersonic long range bomber.
GREAT!!. you are right, it is the B1A which was white. just one thing: The Engine intakes arent how they are in real life. they are pointed at the center forward. thers actually two seperate channel, one for each of the engines in the pods. 5/5!!!!!!!!!!
