If you're at all confused about the comic Engines, this is the page to be! I'll eventually post some explanations of futuristic technology, and info on the world Engines takes place in. Read the first episode here!
The story, so far, happens approximately 200 years after the turn of the millennium, in the heat of World War IV. The primary factions are the United States Commonwealth, a military government left standing after the conclusion of WWIII, and the Northeastern Conglomerate, a USSR-type dictatorship which has spread through all of northern Asia and invaded the Republic of Canada as the opening act of WWIV. Instead of the nations of the world forming opposing alliances, as in the first three World Wars, the unstable global community remaining from WWIII has split into multiple groups, all out to conquer for land and power.
Our story takes place in present-day Canada. The original country was assimilated after World War Three and was split into independent factors by the former provinces. (No offense to any Canucks out there...)
The exact location is on the USC/Conglomerate border in today's Province of Quebec. Nuclear winter plagues what is left of the northern territories, and the Conglomerate forces still remaining are desperate to move South to obtain supplies and sustenance.
In this situation, the USC can gain victory by default; that is, the USC need not make any action in order to defeat the Conglomerate forces to the North. They will simply starve if they cannot escape. The border area in the story has been somewhat stable for around a year now, and the Conglomerate forces on the far side appear to be stagnant, as they appear to be pushing their soldiers to the West.
The protagonist General, however, fears that this is a ruse, and that if more support is withdrawn from the border the Conglomerate will sieze their opportunity and pour through the lines into the Commonwealth heartland.
In Episode 1, the USC commander at the city of Concordia on the USC's northern border, General Cards, learns that the government is sending him a mercenary team to help fortify his position. Cards is doubtful that the team will be any good, as they are not USC-trained.
Episode two will feature the Legends of Earth in the comic's first real combat scene, as they rush to the rescue of an outpost under attack. This episode is currently halfway photographed and is under script development. Click here to preview the script for Episodes 2 and 3!
