One-shot wonders of recent years - The Phoenix v.1
One-shot wonder #3: The Phoenix, Version 1.
About this creation
I went through a phase a few years ago of building spaceships, and this was my first attempt at a properly big one. I called it the Phoenix, based loosely round the Hammerhead cruisers of the KOTOR series, as shown by the spire at the front and the diagonal engines poking out the back end.
KOTOR was and still is a source of obsession for me, and it was around the same time I started playing KOTOR that I started my own SW fan-fiction. And for it, I needed a ship for my main characters to zoom around in. Taking inspiration from KOTOR I spent a few weeks piecing this thing together, and after several failed attempts it eventually came together rather well I thought. Retractable landing gear that supports the weight of the ship and is completely hidden from view when raised, room for two in the cockpit, engines that stayed on, a skin and frame that was reasonably sturdy and enough space inside (12 studs wide) for two floors containing beds for four, a control centre and a table. It even has a gun on top :) sadly I didn't have a vast selection of plates to choose from so it's a bit multi-coloured and un-even, but never mind! Coincidentally this is the only one I've done with a complete skin, the future incarnations have all lost their skin in order for me to be able to make them bigger. I'm still undecided which way I prefer...
