The howling wind and snow bashed against the window next to the bed in which Falcon lay in The Manipulator’s medical facility.
Falcon was asleep, oblivious to the blizzard that still raged outside and shielded them all from any F.I.S. radar, and also oblivious to Blast and Padfoot who stood at the foot of his bed talking.
“We can’t just sit here and wait for the storm to pass. Sooner or later, the F.I.S. are going to realize that we’re here.” Padfoot said.
“Yes I know, but we also can’t just charge out into the blizzard and hope that by some miracle we actually arrive at the base.” Blast argued back. “And also with our extremely limited number of troops and without Falcon, it’s going to be an even more difficult job.”
“Yes but you must see the urgency of the situation! We can’t just sit here!” Padfoot’s voice started to rise and Blast put a finger to his lips to quieten him. “Look; I know you have a plan, but the longer we just sit here, the less of an advantage we have and the more chance they will have of finding us.” Padfoot continued in a whisper. Blast looked at him thoughtfully then looked at Falcon and pursed his lips in thought. He looked back at his second’.
“All right. How does this sound…” and so Blast explained his plan and then gathered the people involved on the bridge for their briefing. Once that was over, they waited… and waited… and waited until eventually that evening, the blizzard calmed down a bit and Blast decided that then was the time.
“Attention. Calling everyone involved in Operation Blank Canvas. Could you all please get to the boarding ramp in correct gear. Thank you.” Blast’s voice boomed through the corridors on The Manipulator’s loudspeaker system.
“Right lets go.” He said to Padfoot and Jelli who stood next to him on the bridge in their Snow-armour and they all walked out of the room.
Ten minutes later and a small squad consisting of Blast, Jelli, Padfoot, Vasilious, Hess, three troops and a medic stood behind the boarding ramp door.
“Right. You all know the plan.” Padfoot called to them all. “Let’s do this!
The team cheered and Blast opened the door shouting, “Good luck everyone!” over the roaring wind that flooded inside.
They pushed out into the blizzard, down the boarding ramp and onto the icy ground. They all looked back at the disappearing light as the door shut behind them.
“Right! Come on!” Blast shouted and they traipsed off away from the comfort and safety of their ship into the freezing, desolate snow and ice.
Heads down, arms folded they headed north into the unknown wilderness through the blizzard. Behind them to the south lay The Manipulator, to the east was a vast expanse of nothingness and to the west was their destination, the F.I.S. base.
They had been walking for about 4 and a half hours now and they had all roped up in case anyone was blown over or got lost in the snow and wind. It was nearly midnight and they were still trudging on.
They only stopped when Jelli suddenly collapsed
and Blast had to pick her up and carry her to a small cave in some rocks a short distance away.
BUT WHAT WILL HAPPEN NEXT? FIND OUT IN PART 4! COMING 27TH APRIL!!!
