My second installment in the Predator & Prey series features two tiny predators the Black Widow Spider or Western Widow spider (Latrodectus Hesperus) and the Common Wasp or Yellow Jacket (Vespula vulgaris) both of which share aposematic coloration and are common to the backyards of the western United States. Aposematism is a strategy used by many species of plants and animals whereby they advertise their presence as a warning to predators of their unpalatable or dangerous nature. Aposematic warnings maybe in the form of sounds, odors, and often in the form of vivid coloration as displayed by our two combatants. Though the adult Yellow Jacket typically feeds on nectar and fruit, they also hunt prey to feed to their larvae and this one has stumbled into the lair of a dangerous adversary. Will the hunter become the hunted? There is a wealth of macro wildlife photos on flickr which I found quite inspiring not to mention my fellow Lego builders who have shouldered the difficult task of emulating arthropods with the brick over the years and recently with the Battlebugs theme.

You continue to impress my with your fine builds von Rammy. The scene is very well captured here, and the spider actually looks like its stalking the "just caught" wasp. Lines are incredibly smooth, and the models are very realistic. They keep getting better and better! I hope to help critique with the next installment soon! :)

These things creep me out! The widow makes my skin crawl. The underside of the cephlathorax is a study in black shiny creepyness. Now make a scorpion and a grasshopper! Attack!

Hey Ryan! Not only a FANTASTIC build, but educational as well! Saw it on Brothers Brick yesterday, and fell in love with it. Ironic you should comment on one of ours while we were waiting for this one! (thanks, by the way) We thought we commented on the "Leviathans" when you posted it, but we must have let it slip...apologies. Once again- a very artistic effort, showing a lot of ability and resourcefulness in the build. Superb!!
Awesome, wow, I heard the poisen of the black widow causes dead in 8 houres (or was it less ? it's exaggerated anyway I think) This is brilliant, I like how the spider hangs upside down in the net, btw, you even did the spider web right, the widow doesn't have the typical web, you have really taken good care of this moc, you did a wonderful job here
