ST. LAURENT Class Hovercraft
Land. Water. Attack. Transport. Recon. This baby does it all. Heavily armed and armored, the St. Laurent Class by ARC-SYS is the best all-around medium hovercraft on the market.
About this creation

*NOTE: the St. Laurent contains 1 small and 2 medium weapon hardpoints, which allows for a great variety of weapon configurations. Other weapons include:

1x Cable winch (3 tons max weight)
1x Set of American-MVA-legal headlights and
taillights (for road driving)

Here are more pictures! (Captions appear below the pictures)

This is the front. (Isn't it obvious? -Wait. Don't answer that.)

Left Side. Note the exposed tank near the front.

Right Side. The St. Laurent is split into two sections - Front and Rear - by the arch in the middle.

This is the main intake turbine. It provides pressure to the air cushion underneath the St. Laurent.

Yes, the cockpit does open. It's made of 3/4 inch bullet-proof polymerized glass, and opens forward to protect the driver in a firefight.

Top view. The St. Laurent turned out a little wider than I wanted, but that's okay because it's a hovercraft.

This is the transport bay. It can hold up to 5 soldiers or one small vehicle, and has more capacity than a Humvee. It also has more weapons (not shown)

Empty. Some space is taken up by greebles and the emergency separation pod (basically a bunch of explosives.)

Parting shot. I kept hemming and hawing over whether or not to have a door or ramp on the transport bay's entrance. I eventually decided against it for aesthetic reasons.

Note that instead of designing a sci-fi fusion-powered, laser-armed, warp-capable ship (as so many lego builders are wont to do), the St. Laurent was designed as a [model of a] realistic weapon which could be developed and put into use within a few years. The only as-yet-undeveloped technology used is the propulsion system - the R&D techies have yet to recognize the potential of using ducted fans instead of those huge swamp-boat things.

This is the first MOC I've done in, like, FOREVER because of school. AP Bio nearly killed me in January, so sorry about the absence. I think that the St. Laurent could have been beefier, more spacious, and generally more imposing, but I decided to keep it simple. The hardest part was definitely the SNOT frame - it is completely sideways, and it was a challenge to integrate floors and the canopy without compromising structural integrity. Over all, a fun little build (I just wish I had more uniforms for my soldiers!)

As the inimitable Phipson says,
Until next time, true believers!
