SSV Normandy SR1
Systems Alliance prototype stealth frigate, serving as the main means of transportation for the main character in Mass Effect
About this creation
Please rate and comment on this creation. I've already used such feedback to make a few changes to the design and hopefully will build this model soon - which will allow me to iron out any structural faults.

I've been making small tweaks and changes to the SR1, I've finally gotten to a stage I'm almost happy with. The most notable change is that she now sports her name on each side of the hull - a small feat in itself.

Her outermost engines have also been bumped forward a fraction to eliminate a fault, but retain their functionality - at the removal of a pin, the engine 'sweeps' forward and outward while remaining parallel to the hull. In theory.

Wings angled down at the bow, Colours changed to all black.

Please rate this creation - comments and feedback will be taken into consideration when producing final instructions.

Here's how she used to look:

And in Cerberus colours just for fun.

I was thinking of building a larger scale model that can open up in half and have every floor visible but with my current lego skill would probably grow a beard before i even complete 1% of it, for this model i am forever in your depth.

Quoting James A. Is this model "swooshable"?
Well, the 'Big SR2' certainly is. Even if it's like trying to swoosh a log. I imagine this would be a bit more fragile in places, but as it's a lot smaller and lighter, I don't see why not (may need a few more structural mods first to be safe).

Hi Ben, looks good :-) As I can see on the first glance you adressed some of its problems (like the connection between inner and outer engines/wings). One thing you should really have a look into is the weight balance. The wings are by far heavier than the front part. additionally the wings in total are pretty heavy so that they have to be stabilized by stands, too. Besides: really good work! I am really looking forward to see a final version from your side! Best regards, MiniMe

Hope you like the improvements! A few details have been bugging me for a while. I still need to address a couple of issues, but I think that I'm prepared to invest in a prototype...

Any chance Lego would go for this if you separated it into segments and ordered them separately?

Would be really great if you made an LDD file for your SR2 like you did with this one. Of course that would take a while but it would be so amazing. Your the best Mass Effect builder out there.

well about 10 minor changes. The whole thing is a "bit" unbalanced. I have to put additional stands below the most outer engines and the front. The most outer engines dropped off every time because of the hinges they are connected to the inner engines always got loose. But to tighten them I had to do another little change and so on. If I find some time, I can update the ldd-file. Can I contact you here somehow? So I could send you pics and maybe updated ldd-file.

@Minime - Sorry I never got round to building a prototype myself. I'm amazed somebody actually did it! - How much did you have to modify the design, and where did you get the parts? Pics? (sorry - so for many questions, and kudos to ya- the instructions alone took nearly an hour to resolve on my computer!)

Hi together, I finally made it and build this awesome ship! But I had to make some changes due to stability. There are some hotspots in this model where it always breaks. The good news: none of them are really visible. Thanks again @Ben for creating this really nice model! Best regards, MiniMe EDIT: I did NOT order it directly from Lego. I extracted the piece list and ordered the pieces from several online shops

This is a brilliant model, you should try and buy it off LDD, I had no problem ordering some of the star trek products I made from them, the first, a Voyager ship was the most difficult though, but after one or two phone calls, they decided that with all of the effort and time I had placed into building it online, the agreed to let me order it (also as it was at the time, the largest model they had ordered from Design byMe) Yet again, a brilliant model.

Ok, I understand. You definitely did your research there.

Quoting Matty Mason Why wouldn't this make it through?
I recently spoke with Richard Iwaniuk, BioWare's senior director of business and planning, as well as studying LDD's own restrictions, and unfortuantely LEGO would not be permitted to sell the product - just as I am not permitted to sell any of my Mass Effect themed creations. I wouldn't want to get anyone in trouble.

Peculier, with the not being able to buy it, for I made a USS Excelsier on LDD and got it just fine. Why wouldn't this make it through? Nevertheless, this exceeds all others on the site, and I think it's worth the sweat and blood that's going into it. If you're sweating and bleeding.

OMG A brilliant model, you're very good at capturing the shape of the ship. Love it :)
