A daily log of my church's building of Solomon's Temple.
About this creation
Alright...here's what's going on. My church's mega-sized VBS is doing a Lego elective for the second year in a row and this year's giant project is a 50,000+ piece Solomon's Temple. The temple is supposed to be constructed Monday through Friday by 150+ kids and a handful a leaders. This is day two.
You may have seen that yesterday that we were getting ready for kids to make letters. Well, we're doing that again. Why you ask? Because the yellow color that was sent is actually wrong and we're waiting for the Tan to come in on Wednesday. So we need to keep the kids busy by constantly tearing down most stuff. Don't worry, we're rotating teams though...
The free build area has been arranged and everything has been destroyed for a special project that I am in charge of. I'll talk about that in a second...
Ok, so you know how we had to destroy the letters? Yeah, we're destroying the roofing which I found out is now apart of some floor or something.
Elisha H and Mr.H massacre the floor/roof in a short period of time.
Samuel and I lay down plates and tiles for examples of what the kids will mass produce.
Here is the patern, basically. All 1x6s.
The 1st Station - Morning
Yeah, so like I said earlier, I'm doing a special thing today so I won't be with my team. I was put in charge of the free build area (a place where you can build whatever you want) by Mrs. B to do a "special mission."
If you take 6 2x4s, there are 102 million combination for them. And that was today's mission. To take 6 of them and see how many combination we could come up with.
Here's an example combination above. ^^^
Here are a bunch of the kids combination.
The 2nd Station - Morning
Now the whole day I was at free build directing the combination stuff so I wasn't able to see most stuff, but I did pop in on the Non-Lego area and today they were making Lincoln Logs.
My little brother, Shane, is designing a house.
Blueprints, rulers, and pencils are scattered across the table.
The 3rd Station - Morning
During the 3rd period, I popped in on the Temple.
After three rounds of Free Buildness, I finally get to sit down and enjoy some food.
A Lemonade, a biscuit, two chicken drumsticks, two cookies, a bunch of grapes, and some potato salad.
The 1st Station - Afternoon
Not much happened during this time slot except Mrs. B asked if my friend Philip and I could come up with an activity for tomorrow's free build. We have decided on fruits and vegetables and made a lot of example fruits and vegetables.
We put all of them in a box.
and leave a note telling people not to look inside. TOP SECRET!
The 2nd Station - Afternoon
Nothing exciting happened except Philip and I working on the secret project for tomorrow.
The 3rd Station - Afternoon
At the end of the day, the table filled up with not only combinations, but other things to.
When Everything's Over...
We made this much progress on the Temple today.
Make sure to check back tomorrow to see the next update! It will be up around 5:00 so check at 6:00.
If everyone in my church were to place only about one piece each, we might have finished it. I belong to Saddleback church, so yea, we might even have and extra piece to spare. Nice job you guys are doing, keep it up!
