Mechanical Programmable Robot
This is my mechanical programable robot. With video.
About this creation
Hi guys,
This is something really special:
A mechanical robot, which is programmable via program cards. The cards are 6-wide plates with gear racks on it, which can be read by an on-board card reader.

The advantage of using this kind of cards is that gear racks, compared to i.e. punched cards, can store information AND transmit torque.

The idea of this robot I got from the Technic Expert builder idea book 8888 (1980).

These three cards representate some examples what you can program:

In this program, the robot will go forward and backward three times.

Here, the robot goes forward turns right and left, goes back and turns right again (first card in the video).

This is the second video example; It goes forward for a while, returns and turns right, then it goes back and forth.

Here is the video:

THis is a great idea. It clearly shows what you can do with only one battery powered LEGO engine. Bravo!

Ah, I remember that brilliant book and this is a nice compact version of the machine you refer to.

I was wondering how you'd made this after reading the title! It's actually very simple, but brilliant because of that, very inventive
